ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – On Monday, February 27, 2017 the Royal Virgin Islands Police Forces will mark 50 years of existent as an independent constabulary but instead of the usual week of celebrations, the Force will host a number of community-centred events through the year 2017.

Dignitaries, Police officers, their families, friends and supporters will assemble to launch the year’s celebration at the New Testament Church of God Worship Centre during their Sunday service on February 26. The Commissioner of Police, among others, is expected to give remarks.

On Monday, officers will assemble at Road Town Police Station for the unveiling of a plaque and monument in commemoration of the RVIPF’s 50 years of service. This will be followed by remarks and speeches from retired police officers and an in-house luncheon. Tuesday night, February 29, the RVIPF will host the RVIPF Domino Championship, one of many crowd favourites.

Chairperson for the Planning Committee Deputy Commissioner Alwin James says this 50th year celebration will take on flavours of the past as well as the present but on a grand scale.

“We will combine Police Week crowd favourites such as the International Food and Drink Night and the Bingo Night with events and activities to showcase our history as we fulfilled our motto to serve with knowledge, courage and integrity throughout the years,” he said.

Promotions for these events will come as the year progresses.

“Community service for all; 50 years on call” is the slogan for this year’s celebration.
