ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Disembarking the Norwegian Epic cruise ship on Friday, February 21, 2020, some 200 runners from the ‘Run for Fun Cruise Tours Inc’ organization invaded Road Town, Tortola, in a grand spectacle as part of a 5K run from the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park (TPP) to the Queen Elizabeth II Park and back.

Officials welcomed runners

Present to welcome the runners were officials such as Jr Minister for Tourism, Hon Sharie B. deCastro (AL), the Tourism Chairwoman Kenisha A. Sprauve along with Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), BVI Tourist Board official Mrs Rosemary R. Rosan-Jones aka ‘Cindy’ said the Tourist Board was happy to welcome the runners into the territory as part of the initiative.

“This is the second year an event such as this is happening and it shows that our cruise tourism can take diversification and there are other things to do on the island besides sight-seeing and the fact that sports tourism is a welcomed thing to our brand,” Rosan-Jones said.

She said the group also made a donation to the BVI Red Cross and to the BVITB’s ‘Seeds of Love’ programme where some trees were planted along DeCastro Street as part of the initiative.

‘We are happy’ – Tourists

“We are very happy about the give-back portion of the event. Through our runners give back programme, we were able to provide a cash donation of almost 3K,” one runner said.

Deputy Speaker Hon Neville A. Smith (AL) and Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) were also present for the day's event.

Hon deCastro accepted the monetary donation one behalf of the BVITB.

Stop being ignorant. Plant your own tree. Seeds of love has planting events for locals. Get your head out of the sand.

JAH, although it is said that no question is DUMB, that one is definitely DUMB. Who the hell is stopping LOCALS from planting their own Trees. Come on people stop giving the world that picture of locals. I am not a local but a long time resident of the BVIs.
Stop doing yourselves that. My God. No one owe you all anything. Ask this question," what can I do for my Country and not what my Country can do for me" you get it.

The Jah comment above was made for the sole purpose to get people like oh boy to contribute negative comments. Every day God send you people put a picture out there that BVI People are usless and lazy. We appreciate those who come and contribute but we can do and have been planting trees for ourselves for many years. Many of these negative comments are not made by BV Islanders but from outsiders who wants to portray a bad impression for the natives and you all need to stop it. If you hate the people that much nobody is forcing you to stay whether you long time or short time resident.
