ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Rotary Club of Road Town has embarked on a new partnership with Follow The Movement and The Hope Foundation with a view to helping youth across the Territory realize their full potential.

“Among us today are two men, who are a shining example of the contribution our young people can make to the development of this Territory. I speak here of Mr. Craig A. Lake, President of Follow The Movement and Minister Melvin Turnbull, President of The Hope Foundation,” said President of the Rotary Club of Road Town Shan Mohamed.

He was speaking at a ceremony held at Maria’s by the Sea today July 10, 2014 to mark the coming together of the new partnership.

“I applaud the work you have already done in the community and I thank your for agreeing to partner with the Rotary Club of Road Town. Over the years, the Rotary Club of Road Town has helped to streamline a number of programmes that have benefited our young people,” said Mohamed.

He said that EarlyAct, Interact and Rotaract are all youth arms of Rotary established in the Virgin Islands that teach leadership skills, respect and the importance of working together. “However, the club feels that there is need to reach more young people in the community and instead of re-inventing the wheel, we have decided to join forces with FTM and The Hope Foundation to change lives,” said Mohamed.

“We stand together today because we recognize that there is a problem facing our youth. We recognize that our youth need our help and we here to say to them a ‘change’ is coming,” he said.

He noted that at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Road Town, it was pointed out that more youth are involved in crime. “We have seen our young men being expelled from the Elmore Stoutt High School, and we have seen the persistent problem of teenage pregnancy and sexual health,” he said.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are all fully aware of the problems confronting our youth. Some of the challenges are well documented in the media; however, what is not presented to us are the root causes of the problems,” said Mohamed.

“Shortly, we will sign the Memorandum of Understanding that will cement a commitment between the Rotary Club of Road Town, Follow The Movement and the Hope Foundation. This is simply the beginning of a great experience. This is the beginning of a change that will light the way for the future of these Virgin Islands,” he said.

“Embedded in the MoU is a commitment for us to work on five critical areas which are Crime minimization, Drug prevention, At risk sexual behaviour, Self Esteem and Behavioural attitudes,” he said.

He thanked the Club’s corporate partners Mourant Ozannes, LIME, Nagico NV and he also thanked the BVI community for their confidence in the Club.

Foxy how in the world is this "politricts" It is three organizations coming together to help the youths. Have you or any of your friends done anything for the community? Have you or any of you joined/formed created anything that helps the community?
Enlighten me so that I can fully understand. Or is it the presence of the Minister that makes it automatically shady

If any man lacks wisdom let him ask of God. Please ask also for your blinded one eye to be opened or better yet for two eyes so that you may be wise and see clearly beyond your ignorance, jealousy and stupidity. Great work Rotary, FTM and Hope Foundation, do the work and results will be seen in the lives of our young people. Good moves!

Is Mr Turnbull a BVIslander? YES! Is Mr. Turnbull an educated young man? YES! Does Mr. Turnbull give back to the country? YES! Does Mr. Turnbull contribute immensely to youth development and in other areas in this country? YES! Has Mr. Turnbull proven that he is trustworthy and capable of leading? YES! Well in that case, does it matter if he will be on NDP or LMNOP come next elections? A positive article about moving forward and that's what you get out of it? Jah!

It is sad that no matter what is done in the BVI some of you always has to bring politics into it. Instead of saying to yourselves how can I be a part of this you all sit down and talk pure nonsense. Instead of being part of the solution you all just compounding the problem.
