BAUGHER’S BAY, Tortola, VI – Persons from all walks of life and various cultures gathered at several sections across the Virgin Islands last night to usher in the Christmas day in their own fashion and style.

While many of the Christian faith chose to be in church to fellowship with each other and offer praises, others would have chosen to be indoors, putting the final Christmas touches to their homes and preparing meals.

There was also that group of persons that was out having a merry time in the clubs, at bars and on the streets.

The latter was the scenario that took place at Mala’s West Indian Delights in Baugher’s Bay during the 3rd annual ‘King of the Street’ car show, a promotion put on by Mala’s in collaboration with Bolo’s General Store and Caribbean Cellars.

The activity was said to have been the biggest ever in its three years of existence and the activity that would have had the most patrons on Tortola on Christmas Eve into Christmas morning.

According to the Promoters, in excess of five cars participated, flooding the block with the blasting of their boom boxes in special cars and vans.

This year saw Rodney Beharry being crowned the ‘Street King’, carting away trophies and other incentives. He was adjudged the overall best in competition and the winner of the ‘A’ Class, 7000 watts and over category.  Nicholas Alphonso walked away with the second place prize for that category.

In the ‘B’ class, the 1st prize went to Marshall Seenarine and 2nd place George Plunkett. During the upbeat presentation ceremony Mr Mandinka M. Crabbe aka ‘Bolo’, one of the major sponsors this year, told the large crowd that he can guarantee that the event would be much bigger in 2014.

He was also high in praise for the judges, Lorn Green of Green Tech and Jaron Maduro of Right Motors who, according to Mr Crabbe had a very difficult job on their hands.

The managers of Mala’s West Indian Delights said that promoting the annual activity is one of several ways that they give back to their customers and friends. The other public activity would be their Old Year’s night block party on December 31, 2013.

I also thought tinted windows were illegal. Loud music IS noise pollution whether you like it or not. everything has its place and time.
