ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - It is considered one of its biggest promotions as Digicel approaches the five year mark as a corporate citizen of the [British] Virgin Islands and it comes as an answer to cries for reduced costs on mobile roaming.

Today October 8, 2013 Digicel welcomed members from the media to break the news to its customers about the ‘Roam like you're home’ promotion. This was done to toasts as Digicel (BVI) Chief Executive Officer, Mr Declan Cassidy said, "Great new rates mean customers can feel free to use their phones as they do at home."

The promotion is all about ensuring that Digicel's customers can use their digicel mobile phones while roaming without being afraid of high costs as the promotion has no ending in sight.

According to Mr Cassidy, the Digicel the promotion will see the VI's pre-paid and post-paid customers benefiting from the same kind of great roaming rates that they enjoy at home and no opt-in fee when they are not in the Caribbean.

At the press conference dubbed ‘extraordinary’, Mr Cassidy said with the new promotion persons would be able to call, email, browse the internet and send text messages for great low rates. "Meaning they can use their phones abroad as they do at home. All customers roaming on Digicel's other networks in the Caribbean will automatically be switched to the new low rates," he explained.

Mr Cassidy said the promotion is not accessible in Guyana because of that country's tax laws and government policies.

Customers roaming across the Caribbean will not have to pay an activation fee.

"The new initiative also offers substantial saving for roamers travelling to USA, USVI and Puerto Rico with a low activation fee of just $15 per week or $30 for 30 days. Pre-paid customers can subscribe to the USA roaming plan by dialing *153# from their Digicel phone. Post-paid customers can subscribe by calling #100 from their Digicel phones."

The Digicel CEO said the considerations that led to them implementing the promotion fell on the heels of extensive research across the globe. "’Roam like you're home’ is quite simply the best roaming plan in the world as it gives customers the freedom to use their phones abroad as they do at home without having to worry about the cost," Mr Cassidy emphasised.

Prior to this newest development, many residents of the VI opted to purchasing a new hand set and service while on overseas travels as it had seemed expensive to the average roamer to even leave their handset on.
