PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- The Government of the Virgin Islands is constructing 3,813 linear feet of concrete roadway from Paraquita Bay to Hodges Creek.

Minister for Communication and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), said the Government is progressing with its Road Improvement initiative and is committed to executing and completing road improvement works as part of the Road Rehabilitation Project from Paraquita Bay to Hodges Creek.

Honourable Rymer said, “Work is set to commence on Thursday, September 26 and we anticipate that these works will take approximately six months. We appreciate the patience and caution of motorists and residents as we continue ‘Building a Better Road Network One Project at a Time.’”

The contract was awarded to Northam Construction for a total of Two Million Three Hundred Eighty-Six Thousand Fifteen Dollars and Ninety-Nine Cents (US$2,386,015.99).

Chief of Infrastructure and Development in the ministry Mr. Duane Fraites, stated that while the project was originally scheduled to begin earlier this year, design modifications necessitated some adjustments. The project scope includes:

  • Demolition and excavation to remove the existing asphalt layer
  • Construction of manholes, interceptor drains, piping, and drainage systems
  • Building retaining wall structures
  • Earthworks, compaction, and installation of road base
  • Construction of a new reinforced concrete roadway and entrance pavement
  • Coordination with utility and telecommunication companies to ensure service continuity

Updates will be provided as the project progresses.

The Ministry of Communications and Works remains dedicated to enhancing public infrastructure in alignment with international standards, ensuring that public utilities are reliable and affordable for all residents and visitors in the Virgin Islands.

If vehicles could talk ,they would be saying thank you......! for easing the stress off their front end. I must say it's a much more pleasant drive ,less skipping of pot holes...keep it up please.

Thank you for smoother stretch of road to drive on. But can you fix the bump in the road by Brandywine Bay Estates or is that part of the design. And please ensure that there is enough asphalt to cover the entire surface of the road because there are a few areas where the asphalt is rolled so thin you can see the old road poking through. I don't know what that would mean over time with wear and tear or rain.

Much needed improvement overall, looks and feels good. My vehicle, my back, my nerves and my wallet are thankful!

Our District Representative does not represent us. I wish he would drive down Josiah's Bay to the well-known surfing beach. It is a horror and many accidents have almost happened because of the zig-zagging that has to be done because of big potholes breaking our cars. Tourists complain and the surfing competition will be soon with cars being damaged. When was the last time he traveled down there? Oh yeah, Election time to smile and shake hands.
