CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- The [US] Virgin Islands Port Authority said Friday, May 8, 2020, it has approved a request from Road Town Fast Ferry to transport cargo from St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) to Tortola, [British] Virgin Islands. The trips started Saturday, May 9, 2020.

Road Town Fast Ferry will make cargo-only trips between St Thomas and Tortola on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, VIPA said. The request was granted after consultation and written approval was provided by the Government of the [British] Virgin Islands, said VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe.

The ferry will clear Customs in Cruz Bay, St John, USVI, and will arrive at the Edward W. Blyden IV Marine Terminal in St Thomas at 9:30 am to pick up cargo and supplies. The cargo shipments will be pre-arranged and delivered to the ferry for pickup, according to the authority.

The captain and crew on the ferry will not disembark in St Thomas, and there will be no passengers allowed on the vessel as the VI’s borders are still closed to travellers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

      It wont hurt but the borders are technically still closed. The agreement is for cargo only. This is a good start though.

    This was a total mess. I had four packages coming up on this boat, nothing was organized. The boat came in after 1pm and west end was a mess! What social distancing??? I should have known better. I hope we can atleast use local courier
