HODGE’S CREEK, Tortola, VI- The section of Blackburn Highway from Paraquita Bay to Hodge’s Creek is nearing completion, following the successful installation of essential box drains.

The Ministry of Communications and Works announced on Facebook on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, that road improvement projects like this one are important for ensuring the long-term durability of primary transit routes throughout the Virgin Islands.

It added, ‘’These projects must be completed with precision and thoroughness. The installation of box drains is a crucial step in enhancing the structural integrity of the roadway. These drains were specifically designed and constructed with the long-term sustainability of the road network in mind.’’

Temporary pause of work

As part of the ongoing work, a section of the roadway has been paved with concrete, marking a significant step toward project completion.

The ministry went on to state that, currently, the final segment of concrete road near Bouncer Bar is under construction; however, work will temporarily pause to accommodate the August festivities.

The ministry added that construction activities are expected to resume in this area after the celebrations conclude. Therefore, all motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to exercise caution while travelling on the road.

Additionally, the ministry acknowledges that the construction may cause increased noise and dust in the area, and they sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Ministry of Communications and Works envisions a future with enhanced connectivity and an improved quality of life for all residents and visitors as it works to upgrade the main roadways across the territory.

    Well done!

As a motorist who frequents the area, I ask that you all please make it look pretty. Plant some nice flowers etc. Don't just leave it with the dirt at the side.

I've been driving so long on Ridge Road since this construction started, I forgot there was supposed to be a road below that I used to drive on all of these years. Now this news article made me remember that this has been the longest construction in history, to the point that I forgot about it. Ridiculous!

I don't know why in the BVI we like to slope corners to the OUTSIDE of the turn. That's an accident waiting to happen. There was a corner like that on Joe's Hill and every time it rained, there was a crash. The accidents stopped after Gov't fixed the corner by re-grading the outside-slope.

It will benefit us all when we realize that we DONOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE to build roads and highways. Bring in the expertise and let the road workers here work with them to get the experience. Pay for the expertise one time and get value for money. Then we will have that expertise here that we can sell to neighboring islands. We keep the money here waste it on people who don't know what they are doung.. That piece of road and other road works here are shameful. Money wasted
