Ritical’s single release touches the heart
The song was the first single release by the talented Virgin Islander musician for his upcoming album ‘Love is the Greatest’.
‘Wish You The Best’, Ritical had told Virgin islands News Online in an exclusive interview, was inspired by experience and speaks about accepting certain things in life that cannot change and changing the things that can be changed and knowing the difference. It also speaks about love for fellow mankind despite the challenges that one may face in life. “It is about wishing people the best regardless if it is a loved one or friend or even someone who did you wrong. It is all about love and you staying positive in the midst of all your adversities. It is what will bring you that inevitable blessing. Sometimes you can’t dictate your life, you can’t predict it so that when you see certain things take place you just have to be strong and stay focus on your goal and keeping that type of attitude of wishing people well regardless,” Ritical had said.
It certainly seemed as though the song touched the hearts of many including the host of the Morning Ride Show Paul “Gadiethz” Peart, who played the music over and over again and also dedicated it to all who had lost a loved one. He also specifically dedicated it to the family and friends of the late Jevaughn Charles and Maxwell Smith.
One person called in to say that the song was indeed sung from the heart and that he could not wait for the album to be released in March. Another said it was nail biting and that Ritical needed someone to push him to go abroad to get more exposure in the music industry.
Well Ritical himself is optimistic that he is on the high road to bigger and better things, including travelling the world, especially now that he has a manager in former USVI senator Adlah Donastorg. “A lot of things didn’t come into manifestation because I didn’t have a concrete manager so to speak, I had spokespersons but now I have a legit manager, who is taking the responsibility of nurturing and setting things for me. My manager is very knowledgeable and connected and we are putting the pieces together,“ Ritical told Virgin Islands News Online in an exclusive interview.
In fact, Ritical noted that with the amount of music he already has he could have had an album out long time ago but it never materialized due to him not having a manager, who he said understands him well.
Asked what inspires him to write music, Ritical said “life inspires me, more time is experience, more time is things that I think that people need to hear and things that people go through and can relate to. It comes natural. Sometimes I would wake up and I hear something beating in my head, I would hear a melody or some sort of words. My inspiration comes from Jah, the most high himself so what I hear is what I put down. Sometimes if I get up and say let me go write a song, songs come but even before I do that I pray for the words and inspiration.”
On the issue of support for his music and talents, the Virgin Islander said “I give thanks because people know what I am capable of and they respect it. I wouldn’t get into the financial part because what is meant to be going to be because there are certain people that are set to take part in this reality here and no matter how much I reach out to it is just set for them to play a role. Finance is a challenge but it is not going to stop anything. We already have things in line.”
Ritical said he didn’t get into singing but rather singing got into him. “My family on my father side are all musicians. They had a band called the Bad Ones back in time, which was known to be the number one band according to the people and according to my family. I was born with music in me. I play the piano, bass and I always could have put words together. One time when I was in primary school I was persuaded to take part in a poetry competition throughout the Virgin Islands and I won it. I was at the age of 12 then so I always had music and poetry in me. It is not something I learned or got into, it was always there.”
Asked if there was a particular type of music he preferred to sing, Ritical said his foundation is Reggae “but as I grow and time goes on I mature and being a lover of music in general I happen to stretch and expand as an artiste and write because I love soul music and RnB so I am also inspired to write in that type of manner. A lot of the music I am doing right now is cross over music as you have that hip hop feel, rock feel, soul feel and that reggae feel so I wouldn’t say that there is a certain music that I favour to sing but I must admit that when I write a lot of times the melody that comes within me is more of an RnB, Hip Hopish kind of flow.”
Ritical has also done soca music which he says he enjoys and does to show respect to the culture and still show people that he is versatile.
Asked what advice he had for young artistes, Ritical said “if you serious about being a musician or an artiste or being anything don’t do it for the money. Money will come eventually but do it for the love of it especially music because it is not easy to get involved in. you have to stay focused, strong minded and committed as the competition and challenges are plenty and inescapable.”
Meanwhile, even as the focus was on the release of the single “Wish You The Best” Ritical is particularly looking forward to the release of his first Album. “The biggest thing right now is my first album, which will be released in March. We are shooting for March 31st, 2012.”According to Ritical, the album will see several collaborations with the majority of the videos being done in the Territory with shooting also to be done in St. Thomas and the United States.
Ritical rose to popularity when his single ‘Love is the Greatest’ hit airwaves in the Virgin Islands.
