SAO PAULO, Brazil, SA- Virgin Islands' speed ace Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite dipped under 10 seconds for second place in the Men's 100m at the Grande Prêmio Brasil de Atletismo in Sao Paulo on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Brathwaite clocked 9.92s (+3.4w) to finish behind Brazil's national record holder in the 100m, Erik Filipe Barbosa Cardoso, who crossed the finish line in 9.88s.

Third was Arturo H.D. Espinosa of Panama in 9.95s.

Brathwaite is now expected to represent the Virgin Islands at the 2025 World Athletics Championships to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21, 2025. This event will feature over 2000 athletes from around 200 countries, competing at the Japan National Stadium.

Deya Erickson competes in hurdles event

Meanwhile, Deya Erickson completed the 100M hurdles at the same meet in São Paulo, Brazil.

Erickson registered a time of 13.22s (+3.0w) for a 6th place finish.

    congratulations, sir. great stuff. Every day you are getting better. I am of human history only 143 men have run 100n meters under 10 seconds. One of them is from BVI. This is huge.
