ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI— The annual Ride for Life event organised by MALE (Mentoring Anointed Leaders Everywhere), will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025. This year’s event is being held in honour of Keon Frederick, a young ‘mentor’ who tragically died in a motorcycle accident last year.

He sustained critical injuries in a motor scooter accident at Pasea Estate on February 27, 2024.

The son of athletics coach Ericca Frederick, he reportedly suffered severe trauma to his brain and legs following a collision with a taxi near the Delta Gas Station.

Ride for Life—first conceptualised by Daniel Maduro as a young member of MALE—has grown into an annual campaign aimed at promoting mentorship, road safety, and community awareness.

Organisation President and Coordinator Mr Henderson K. Tittle said this year’s ride will begin at 1:00 p.m. from Save the Seed in Duff’s Bottom and will proceed through Road Town before returning to the starting point for a closing ceremony at 3:00 p.m. Registration for participants will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

King of the Road

This year’s theme is ‘Ride Responsibly Today, Live to See Tomorrow,’ focusing on the urgent need for safe practices among motorcyclists and cyclists, especially young men.

Throughout the route, according to Mr Tittle, memorial wreaths will be laid at each location where a young man lost his life in a road accident.

Among the new features of the event is the introduction of the “King of the Road” honour—recognition to be awarded to the rider who demonstrates the highest level of responsibility and safety throughout the event. The King of the Road will receive a full driver’s licence, full motorcycle insurance, a bike licence, and a helmet inscribed with “King of the Road – Ride for Life 2025.” Other trophies will be awarded in undisclosed categories.

The event this year is being hosted in partnership with FEMALE (Fostering and Empowering Anointed Leaders Everywhere), the Virgin Islands Alzheimer’s Association (VIAA), New Life Baptist Church, Save the Seed Energy Centre, and SHRM Trustees (BVI) Limited.

This is a very serious and much-needed move by Mr. Tittle to demonstrate awareness of bike riders, who are dying so young. They are leaving family and friends to grieve too often. I hope this makes the rest of the bikers aware that it is so easy and sad to lose their lives, and with precaution, they too can live longer.

Mr. Tittle is a well-liked and highly respected expat member of the BVI community that has done a lot for this Territory, and continues to do a lot. That comment that you made was completely uncalled for.

This is probably not even a BVIslander, just some foolish expat instigating confusion.
Mr. Tittle is doing a whole lot better than our VI men to help our young men to grow up to be positive contributing factors in our community. Instead of sitting in bars drinking or somewhere sitting down smoking all day, blaming everybody else but themselves for their current condition.

Whoa, why did you post such HATE? I'm appalled at the rubbish that spewed out of the hole in your face. You are wrong and i know you are aware of it. I do not know Mr Tittle but i applaud the work he and other members of this group has undertaken. Its not an easy feat dealing with young people, especially young males. Let me ask you a question, if Mr Tittle leaves are you willing and able to take up the mantle to help foster these young people? Can you fill his shoes? Tola, stop being so hateful. Seek God and ask Him to get rid of the anger you are stedfastly holding in your Heart. Learn to forgive and let go. I hope in time you can resolve your issues peacefully. Blessed day to you, my friend.

You individual who just made that dumb comment about Mr. Tittle; needs to grow up and wise up and stop being so racist against your own Caribbean black people. You should be ashamed of yourself for making that comment.

Good vibes it can bring if only them dudes would wear there helmets while in the ride and after the ride out even all now. Truth is a lot of youths and even so call big men feel it's soft to wear a helmet. Honestly it's has become a like man thing that has been going on for to long. I am over three decades in age and there's no way I can leave my yard without my main life safety gear which is my helmet.

One Mother carrys a child or children to come in this world Six carry you to your resting place. Wear you helmets people it's not smart. Every one i see without one looks like a fool honestly. ESPECIALLY them young ones that still have parents around. You as a parents have to go deal with medical or worse funeral arrangements.

Whilst the idea of a safety ride is laudible, are we really suggesting 'giving" a full car license to someone who may not have passed the car test or even driven one as a reward?

How about the prize being to have their driving lessons and license paid for based on them training and passing test?
