Richie Spice & Fyah Empress heat up Ira Oliver Skelton Festiville
Rain or stars, once the announcer gave the cue that Richie Spice was about to hit the stage, everyone left their sheltering corner and rushed to stage front as they were not intent on missing a second of the moment.
The heaven was also submissive as the rain soon eased.
Richie Spice’s performance was blazed with some of his songs like the popular, forever favoured 'Brown Skin', 'Ghetto Girl', 'Love and Life', 'Ano me Dat’, ‘Gideon Boot’, 'Marijuana Pon the corner', ‘Earth a run red’, ‘Free’ and the ‘The world is a cycle’, just to name a few.
Coming down to the bottom of the night, there was renewed vigour when Fyah Empress took to the stage. Her high energy saw her being lifted off stage onto a pair of strong shoulders and dancing through the crowd real carnival style.
Last night, August 3, 2013 was another excellent show of support for one of the many activities as part of the 2013 festival celebrations.
However, fans who cared not to get wet were robbed the opportunity to properly respond to a few of the songs by international artiste 'Etana'. Then there were several of her deep songs that saw couples locking on to each other and allowing the music to sink deep into open romance and affection.
There were moments when Etana had men singing to their female companions. As Etana moved to perform the song 'I wanna love you', the intimacy among the audience was interrupted by a sudden downpour. But that did not stop the stage show even as the rain got much heavier and lasted for quite some time.
A surprisingly large number of persons remained in the rain to enjoy the stage show while others ran for cover. She was given an encore call to which she responded positively doing the song 'Redemption song'.
Iwer George and Farmer Nappy who were listed to perform, were no-shows and no reasons were given for their absence. It may have been a bitter disappointment for some who were eager to see them perform.
Earlier there were curtain raiser performances by Lashing Dogs and local singer Heritage. The crowd then began filling the stage front when reigning calypso queen Sistah Joyce took to perform her winning songs. Other artistes included Explainer, Monea and Ritical.
VI’s own Jamesy P was the surprise artiste for the night having been away from his homeland for some two years.
VI Showtime band put the lid on the international night after taking the stage shortly after 4 A.M. on August 4, 2013.
