SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- The public has been urged to be vigilant of persons vandalising sports facilities in the territory.

Executive Director of the Recreation Trust Mr Eustace C. Freeman aka ‘Boss’ informed the media today, May 30, 2022, that the restroom of the Roger Allen Hodge Softball Park in Sea Cows Bay and the nets of a softball field being constructed in Virgin Gorda were recently vandalised.

A photo of a door off its hinges at the restroom at Roger Allen Hodge Softball Park and a photo of parts of the nets in the dugout at the softball field in Virgin Gorda missing were sent to the local media.

‘We continue fixing this door’- Freeman

According to Mr Freeman, damage to the doors of the restroom at Sea Cows Bay has been happening frequently.

“We continue fixing this door to the bathroom…” Mr Freemen lamented.

Mr Freeman pleaded with the media to highlight the issues so the public could be put on alert for such vandals.

Install cameras to monitor the facilities. Some work needs to be done at the Sea Cows Bay field. Its really bad down there. Also, for those using the fields around the territory, please ensure that bottles and garbage are not left on the grounds. It may help to but bins at the fields to help with this. Very concerning but this needs to be corrected. Elders please train the younger generations to respect the environment. Its a vital lesson that is being forgotten.

Who put that type of door on the outside of a bathroom? Y’all know most of these people got out the bush and they are not quite civilized as yet. I agree it is a cultural thing, the norm.

At the way things be happening, there are some malicious expatriates that are doing crap to discredit Virgin Islanders. They just don't want to see anything good in the Territory just to keep on degrading Us. They do all their dirty tactics and then say it's the ways of the Virgin Islanders. This sh** needs to STOP! It's beyond frustration and disgusting. Who it hurt it hurt! Guilty conscience has no accuser.

A question that begs for answers is, does the Recreation Trust have a security plan? There seem to be no security cameras in place around fields thus leaving them open to vandalism. Begging the public for help isn't cutting it. Does the trust have the $$$ to install cameras on all the 27 fields dem boast about being available and ready for use?

It would be nice to hear of the security plans that they have..

We shouldn’t require security cameras if we didn’t have a set of people going around the place like wild animals destroying everything that is provided. Even to the simplest of things like discarding our garbage in bins provided, can’t be done because no one cares nor do we have respect or common decency nor pride in our country. We show this with how we drive, how we park, how we speak to each other. We set no example for anyone watching us. We need a total clean up of our mindset and behavior before anything good in this country can survive. Look at our high school boys and girls, fighting every day like wild animals. You drive by them walking along the road and every other word out of their mouths is a curse word. Who/what are we raising? More wild animals to take over our country in another 10 to 20 years. It’s all shameful.

Also when it rains youngsters goes on the field to spin around scooters destroying the fields. These persons need to be arrested and make an example out of. These facilities were built for we the people. If we sit back and watch them being destroyed, sooner or later we will have NONE. Take photos and report to the Police and Recreation Trust when these things occurs. We must preserve and protect what we have before it is too late.

The playground/play area in long bush is not safe for use. It’s untidy and the hardware needs to be replaced. Very unfit for toddlers to maneuver safely. Deplorable!
