ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Businesses and organisations, who have not yet received Cabinet approval to open as part of the phased economic rebooting of the Virgin Islands (VI), have now been told to open for the purpose of getting their facilities ready to meet social distancing and other requirements for opening on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

According to a newly gazetted Imposition of a Curfew (No. 15) Order, 2020, published on May 6, 2020, "Notwithstanding section 4 [approved businesses], all businesses and establishments not listed under that section shall be allowed to open from the date this Order comes into force."

Businesses would be subjected to inspection

The Order says the sole purpose of the opening is to make adaptations for Social Distancing, Hygiene requirements and for inspection by the Social Distancing and Monitoring Task Force in preparation for reopening from Sunday 'as approved'.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced on May 5, 2020, that the current 1:00 pm to 6:00 am Territory-wide curfew will be lifted for seven more hours, starting Sunday, May 10, 2020, for a two-week timeframe and will now be in place from 07:00 pm to 06:00 am daily.

The decision for businesses to prepare their facilities comes as the Premier noted that the move to relax restrictions with greater opening of the economy came with confidence in the work that public health officials have been doing so far to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the Territory.

Money Transfer Services can ready facilities

It is unclear if Money Transfer Services will be allowed to operate under the new curfew act starting Sunday; however, that category of business would also fall under the list of those who must now ready their facilities.

Business owners can find the full list of currently approved businesses who can operate and serve the public on a limited basis as well as requirements to ready their facilities HERE.

The British Virgin Islands has advertised itself as a " Christian Community". our Premier a man I admire very much has based many of his decisions on his "Christian convictions". Here is a verse from the bible that I would like to share read and digest It is taken from the book of Exodus 22 and vs 21. (NLT) " Do not mistreat or oppress foreigners in any way. Remember you yourself were once foreigners in the land of Egypt" ( St Thomas, Dominican Republic) Those who know our history will understand.

Here is a verse from the Bible as well... 1 Timothy 5:8 NIV

Anyone who does not provide for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Why are you responding to these ridiculous comments? The negative comments that are being posted are only intended to turn locals and expats against each other. Please stop being flustered by those stupid comments. There is no need for any of us to respond to such hatred and even worse, to do so with more hatred. I am personally tired of both sides of this.

From yesterday, because of extended time, there has been a revert to lawlessness! What good is it if we survive COVID-19 and have lost our hearing? (Loud motor bikes, cars blearing loud music!) Hon. Rhymer, having good hearing is part of good health too!
