ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Development Planning Unit in its Departmental Report for 2011 has stated that due to unsolved issues relating to data sources, production of crime statistics has proved especially difficult for the Unit.

The report was laid before the House of Assembly on September 3, 2012.

The report also stated that many schools remained delinquent in the submission of their enrollment data and data needed to compile other relevant statistics as a result were therefore not captured.

The Development Planning Unit is officially responsible for the collection and compilation of all data and the dissemination of all statistics within the territory.

The report issued by the Unit also stated that they experienced challenges related to inadequate human resources and manual recording of data of many data sources which have continued.

The report continued that it was unable to resume publication of annual reports which was suspended in lieu of keeping statistics and their indicators timely.

The cause of this was noted to be previously mentioned human resource constraints in addition to lack of automated data which the report stated has posed a serious challenge in keeping the output timely.

The report noted also that the Unit was as yet unable to report on the implementation of the National Integrated Development Strategy (NIDS) as securing feedback from the different departments and ministries on the achievement of their objectives outlined in the strategic plan has proven difficult.

The Unit also reported that it remained somewhat handicapped by the vacancy of some of the more senior staff positions.

The Development Planning Unit falls under the Premier's Office.

It's funny how the report claimed "inadequate human resources " . They want to have inadequate human resources. I applied for a position that was advertised on the government's website and as of this date the application was never acknowledged.
