REPORT: Garbage Contactors not doing a good job

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Following complaints received by persons around the territory, the Solid Waste Department has concluded, that contractors hired for the collection of garbage in the Virgin Islands (VI) are not adhering to their duties.

The revelation which emerged from the 2011 annual report of the Solid Waste Department and was laid before the House of Assembly on July 24, 2012, disclosed that the hired garbage collectors are not cleaning and emptying the bins properly; as well as cleaning around the bins.

It added that not only are they not cleaning properly but they are not abiding by the time schedule provided by the department.

The report stated that although with the introduction of new contracts under the district system, it was quite clear that the number of complaints the department received pertaining to the neglect of certain bins decreased, it expressed that contractors are now boycotting their duties, by not cleaning them properly.

 “Some contractors still not doing a good job of cleaning around the bins after emptying and almost all of them were not complying to the time stipulated to commence their operation.”

The report indicated that letters were issued to the contractors, where meetings were held to address the matter and discuss the discontinuation of the issue.

    They are also leaving in the bins partially out in the roads. Someone is likely to become hurt by this type of negligence.

      Imagine when the company up Joes Hill had it, all man wanted a cut now they get their cut they can't do the Job. Give the contract back to Hopkins Equipment they were doing a very good job. I saw for my self.

    It got a green garabge truck up the Ghut, the owner don't clean his truck at all. Whenever it pass through the place every man holding them nose, even after 15 minutes the scent still around the place. It need a rule that you MUST clean your truck!

    Not only that but we have a set of nasty and lazy people living here that throw their garbage any and everywhere. People need to stop being so lazy, make sure your garbage goes in the bin, make sure that your old furniture/washers etc go to Pockwood pond, make sure your trash isnt thrown out of the car window. Nasty and lazy!!!!!!!!!

          most if not all the truckers who deal with the garbage collection does a excellent job and they do not cause any inconvenience to citizens. I have worked with many of them and I know they do not take things for granted....Let's give them some credit.

    BY FAR THE CLEANEST AND MOST EFFICIENT GARBAGE TRUCK ON DA ISLAND IS DA PADNA WID DA "MILK WHITE" GARBAGE TRUCK WITH THE SOLID WASTE LOGO ON IT. DIS MAN AND HIS WORK CREW DO A DARM GREAT JOB. SORRY I MOVE FROM LIVING IN ROAD TOWN MEHSON. WHEN HE PASSING DOWN MAIN STREET, ALTHOUGH WE DID NOT HAVE A GARBAGE BIN, HE WOULD BLOW HIS HORN TO INDICATE HE WAS IN THE AREA AND PEOPLE WOULD JUST COME OUT THEIR APARTMENTS AND HOUSES TO BRING OUT THE GARBAGE FOR HIM TO COLLECT. ADDITIONALLY; I NEVER SMELT A FOUL SCENT FROM HIS GARBAGE TRUCK. AND IF YOU ASK ME, IT SEEMS TO BE WELL MAINTAINED AND THE CREW MEN, THEY GREET YOU (AND THESE ARE YOUNG MEN). TO THE POSTER THAT SAID THAT THEY WANT TO TAKE JOBS AND GIVE TO NDP SUPPORTERS........ WOULD YOU SAY THE SAME THINGS IF YOU LIVED IN AN AREA WHERE GARBAGE IS NOT COLLECTED DAILY OR THE GARBAGE BIN SURROUNDINGS ARE LEFT UN-SIGHTLY AND UN-TIDY? I THINK NOT. TO THE POSTER THAT SPOKE ABOUT THE "GREEN GARBAGE TRUCK" HMMMMM! I NOW LIVE IN THE DISTRICT WHERE THIS TRUCK PICKS UP GARBAGE (OR SUPPOSE TO BE PICKING UP GARBAGE) AND I CAN TELL YOU THE BINS ARE HARDLY EVER DUMPED DAILY, WHEN DUMPED, THE BINS ARE LEFT OUT IN THE ROAD AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS ARE NOT CLEANED. GARBAGE COLLECTORS YOU ALL NEED TO REMEMBER " OUR GARBAGE IS YOUR BUSINESS " SO KEEP IT CLEAN.....

    Thank u for acknowledging the fact that Bruce the Mongoose is doin a good Job and tryin it's best to smell good while doin a dirty job....it's not a competition but if more ppl take pride in their jobs things would be much better, no 1 wanted to be a garbage man but I work on that truck and I love my job

    contractors who have failed to comply with the garbage collection work after repeated notices by the waste management unit should be blacklisted.
