FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI– It was on February 27, 2023, that Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) first reported that Mr Renard V. Estridge was a National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for the 2023 General Elections.

Initial information had indicated that Mr Estridge would be contesting for the Seventh District seat; however, Mr Estridge has since announced he will instead be running as a Territorial At Large candidate.

Polling Day in the Virgin Islands is Monday, April 24, 2023.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, and shared on the pages of the NDP, Mr Estridge declared that a vote for him under the NDP is also a vote for economic growth in the Virgin Islands.

Mr Estridge’s platform will also include tourism, financial services diversification, agriculture and small business development.

Need to diversify VI's economy - Estridge

“The need to diversify the BVI’s economy should no longer be a political football,” the poster on his platform stated.

It added that Mr Estridge is confident enough to take on the challenge with modern and innovative ideas but needs the support of the people of the VI to get to the House of Assembly.

“Vote for Renard and make it clear that this election has to be about what is best and will develop this territory. Support Renard’s campaign and vote for the betterment of our economy and collective future,” he said.

Mr Estridge, who was born in St Kitts, is an attorney with the law firm Harneys.

Who are these people? What is their record or history? We never heard of these folks! But not 5 weeks before election and they popping up? These people and parties are trying to insult our intelligence.

This man does not have any good mind towards BVI people. I am surprised to know that he is running. Probably he is trying to fool people given it is a short race to the finish line and hope they vote for him and find out who he really is later. Wake up BVI.

Even a blind man can see that many persons running for this election are actually diversions for certain parties.

After a lifetime of playing Pac Man and either dropping into or having to drive into traffic, to avoid the volcanic craters AKA potholes, especially after a regional loan or two was borrowed, to fix this very same issue, can only be considered very heartless, on the part of our government. The annual patchwork usually lasts for one month, if so long and the point of which is we'een know!

      Health care is a scare.

With two ministers in office having backgrounds in education and teachers being ignored, is wow, amazing.

The bush on the roadsides wha jus start getting cut is a whew!

The diversions of traffic in Road Town and the current tint law, which need to go back to making more sense, as the issues that they were created to resolve still persists.

Road Town Market that got a redo with absolutely no parking is an OMG!

The high and still increasing cost of living, with no price control after empty promises of a department to deal with the Consumer Price Index is astonishing!

The reckless motor-bike and scooter riding on the lane located in the middle of the road without helmets and other violations of the law, without enforcement cannot be replicated anywhere else.

Last but not least, the international embarrassment of our former Premier's arrest with the same set of POLITRIX being played, without any shift in the game playing is so astounding.

We as a people can no longer vote along party lines but for individuals, based on character and vision aligned with their personal and professional history and accomplishments.

It is high time that we show our existing and potential leaders where the power really is and it is can no longer be theirs to decide.

It is easy to run a spectacular campaign but not be spectacular person especially given that election is just a little more than a month away and hope voters can be con. If you did not show you cared before then your words are useless.

Some of these people must have been hibernating in their elitist corner, space, etc. Now, like the ground hog, they blow and coming up out for air, trying to be down wid people to get their votes. Thumbing your noses at people except at election time expecting people to vote for you. Gu way! Don’t piss on the voters and then tell them it is raining. That is insulting. Stevie Wonder unaided could find more places in the BVI than some of these people. You cannot just live in a community and not be an integral part of the community and expect people to support you. Gu way no mon. When some names don’t ring a bell, Road Town we got a problem.

Vote for no one on any political party ticket who has not shown that they cared for the community long before a month before elections.

If we hardly know him in the district does that mean we will know him at large. Ok I guess the public will know him in one month.
