Removing 'Jackie' from ACoP post 'most unjust & unwarranted'- The Alliance
Mr Pruce's controversial move comes as a new Commissioner is to be appointed, and many see this as a play by the governor to signal early that he will not accept a recommendation by the Police Service Commission (PoSC) to appoint Vanterpool to the top post permanently.
The governor had publicly praised Vanterpool, a Virgin Islander, for her work as Acting Commissioner of Police, and the community had also recognised her efforts; however, he is now stating that Ms Vanterpool does not have what it takes to lead the force.
'Unjust & Unwarranted'
The Alliance, in a statement, said the treatment of Ms Vanterpool by the governor is "unjust and unwarranted".
"While recent decisions have resulted in her being asked to step down from the acting post, which we find to be most unjust and unwarranted, we believe it is important to recognise and honour the significant contributions she made during her time in leadership," the Alliance wrote.
While extending appreciation to Ms Vanterpool for her exemplary service as Acting Commissioner of Police, the Alliance said Ms Vanterpool demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the VI communities.
"Her leadership during a critical period in the territory’s policing history was marked by diligence, courage, and a clear dedication to public service. The Alliance acknowledges the hard work she invested in strengthening community trust, supporting officers, and upholding the highest standards of law enforcement.
"We thank Ms Vanterpool for her service to the people of the Virgin Islands and wish her continued success in her future endeavours. Her dedication stands as an example of committed public service, and she has the Alliance’s respect and gratitude," the Alliance stated.
