ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance Honorable Andrew A Fahie (R1) has announced that payments of outstanding 2017 increments to public servants will start in the next upcoming pay period.

Premier Fahie made the announcement earlier today Friday, November 26, 2021, alongside Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) on recent happenings in the Government, including a question and answer segment on a number of burning issues.

Funds available for payments - Premier

According to Premier Fahie, "On the matter of payments owed to public officers for 2017, your government has provided the funds for payments to proceed."

The Premier said the Government Human Resources Department has informed that the process for the disbursement of the funds has already started.

"Some 349 public officers will be receiving their increments in the current pay period, this month, increments will continue to be made in the subsequent pay periods and thereafter until all persons receive their entitlements," he said.

Long overdue payments to come - Premier

In making the announcement Premier Fahie stressed that the payment is long overdue going back years before the present Virgin Islands Party Administration.

"We promise that we would ensure that our public officers their monies which they worked hard for and which they deserve."

Since taking office, the Fahie Government commenced payment of increments to public officers and with the payments to be made for the 2017 increments, the government would have fulfilled the payments of the 2016 and 2017 increments.

I must commend the VIP Government for this for sure. The NDP ignored us with this when they were in office.

Mr. Premier. You are the best for this country in this difficult time. God has placed you in that position and you are doing your best for the people. I hope you will be in good health and trust in God and He will see you through. Don't mind the talk because they want to see you fail. But I know that once Christ is in the vessel, we can smile at the storm. The leader of the Opposition and Hon. Mitch Turnbull have suddenly gone silent and lost for words. You can't keep a good man down. Four more years and we will see a more done for the people because the Premier is a man of vision. So many good things are happening in the country without the British Loan guarantee.

    Hon. Premier:

Can you instruct the Minister of Health to pay increments and raised that Health Services keep promising the staff. No scratch that, demand that it be paid promptly. Tell him to stop accepting excuses from the management. They have not paid increments since 2009 and to this date no justifiable reason can be given. The former government give them the money twice but they have not given us any. However, the Executives gave themselves one each year.

We only asking for what we have rightfully earn, nothing more. If you want to see smiling faces for this holiday season, demand that it be paid now. Accept no excuses. We have been string along for too long. No more excuses. The cost of living increasing and I digging into my savings too often. Please help us. Thanks

Mr Minister what about us at BVIHSA it's been years since we got an increment if I'm correct could be as far back as 2009 0r 2010 since we became stagnant in our salaries no raise no incentives NOTHING and from what most of us were made to understand the monies were sent from. Government but we the employees are yet to see any of it. Can you please look into what has been happening to the monies that has been sent to BVIHSA to pay increments and why we haven't received not even a cent
