Registration opens for Hon Fraser Basketball League 2016

SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- The wheels are starting to turn faster as the road to the much awaited Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League shortens.

The League will tip off on August 20, 2016 and end on October 30, 2016.

Meanwhile, team registration forms are now available, according to a press release from the League Committee.

The Senior Team Registration is $250.00 per team, ages 15 plus. The Junior League, which is 9 to 14, is $150.00. All junior league players’ registration forms must be accompanied with copies of passport or other government issued identification to confirm ages.

Registration forms can be collected from any of the League Committee Members; however, completed forms with payment, must be turned into the Hon Julian Fraser’s Sea Cows Bay Office which is opened Monday to Friday from 1 PM to 6-PM. The Office is located west of the Valerie O. Thomas Community Center in the gray two-storey building.

Registration deadline is June 30, 2016 by 6:00 PM.

Registration fees include uniform tops and insurance for those without NHI coverage.

Top positions confirmed

Meanwhile, the League has announced that Mrs Kharid T. Fraser and Mr Derick R. Varlack have been confirmed to the posts of Chairperson and Commissioner respectively.

Mr Julian Willock has been reassigned as the Public Relations Officer of the League.

This information was confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online by Mrs Fraser today, May 23, 2016.

“Last year we were just acting in the positions but now we have finalised those positions,” Mrs Fraser said.

The Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League is co-founded by Hon Julian Fraser RA, the Representative for the Third District and now Leader of the Opposition, along with Bishop John I. Cline, founder of the Save the Seed Energy Centre and senior pastor of the New Life Baptist Church in Duff’s Bottom. 

The League is in its fourth year and this year promises to be even more exciting, as competition and participation are expected to be overwhelming and stronger.

The Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League has both junior and senior divisions and is also open to both male and female eligible players throughout the Virgin Islands, including the sister islands.

The League is governed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules, endorsed by the BVI Basketball Federation, and has its own by-laws and governing committee.
