Registration for Hon Fraser/STS League ends July 7, 2017
The League, now celebrating its 5th year, is open to both men and women and includes a Junior Division. This year for the first time there will be two categories of ages for the Junior League; a 9-12 and 13-16.
The Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League will start on August 19, 2017 and run until November 5, 2017.
According to a press release from the league, registration forms are available on the League’s Facebook page, and in order to be registered teams must fill out the roster and include registration fees.
“The response has been fair so far. However, this could be considered normal since teams usually wait until the final week of registration to complete their registration,” commented Chairperson of the League, Mrs Kharid T. Fraser.
Registration for the Junior League is only $100.00 which includes 12 uniform tops. For the Senior Division Registration is $200.00 and also includes 12 uniform tops.
“With regards to the number of teams allowed, there’s no limit. Over the years we average about 12 senior teams and 6 junior teams,” Mrs Fraser further told Virgin Islands News Online.
Step up with Gold Rings
This year the Championship Team will be awarded gold rings, as well as having their banner flying in the arena at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola, where all games are played.
For more information about registration forms, Team Owners, Managers, Coaches and Players can contact the League's Commissioner M. Derrick R. Varlack at 340-3790 or the Chairperson Mrs Kharid T. Fraser at 542-2637.
Additionally, Mrs Fraser said "the next step after registration is to set a date for Teams to pick a draft player, after which there will also be a meeting with all Team Owners, Managers, and Coaches to ensure everyone is clear about the rules and expectations."
The League was founded in 2013 by Hon Julian Fraser RA, the Third District Representative and Bishop John I. Cline of the Save the Seed Energy Centre and New Life Baptist Church.
The objectives of the Basketball League include to provide wholesome basketball competitive games in a family environment while promoting discipline and respect for each player, fans, the League Committee, the game, God and country.
