Regional police officers told to get rid of the rotten ones among them

This bold call and statement came during the opening ceremony of the Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Association (CFPWA) 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Veronica House of Commerce in Long Bush, Tortola.
Mr Archer Jr, in his remarks, said, “No significant crime ring, no significant disturbance of the law and order can happen unless law enforcement is involved.”
He told them, therefore, their role is beyond the well-being of their organisations and the welfare of officers.
“Your role is to identify within your very own institutions the men and the women who do not fit within your ethos, and if they are a part of your organisation and members, they must go. They can’t live and thrive with you and balance hope and welfare, and still facilitate crime,” Mr Archer Jr admonished.
'Your profession means more now than ever before'
The Acting Governor also told the leadership of the CFPWA that in today’s world, with high-powered rifles, domestic violence, drug trade and drug wars, and much more, the profession they are in means “even more to our survivability, the future of our territories that we’ve ever met before”.
He encouraged them during their deliberations this week to talk not just about their rights and ensuring them within their various police forces across the region but ensure there is time to “recommitment to the ethos of who you are, to serve, to protect, to ensure that every single day you protect not just yourselves and your collective body but you represent hope, dignity and pride for your respective territories”.
'The real mandate is about the people'
Meanwhile, Mr Archer Jr reminded the officers that the real mandate is about the people.
“Some associations get lost in ensuring that there is equal pay and equal promotions, and that we are on the same page within the forces… sometimes when you have the strong and the standoffs and tension, crime still exists, mothers are still looking for protection, persons abused are still looking for hope.”
He encouraged them to never lose sight of the reason they started to serve as police officers.
This reason, he said, was to serve, protect and ensure the people in their respective countries feel safe and trusted.
