Refurbished WE Police Station testament of people's power- Hon Fahie

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) recently announced that the police station will be reopened today and issued an open invitation to all and sundry, especially the residents of the West End communities.
The facility was closed to undergo extensive repairs, which included a new roof as well as renovations to office spaces and police barracks. Repairs also included replacement of windows, installation of a new security and fire system, a new air conditioning system, electrical fixtures and interior finishes. While repairs were undertaken, officers of the station were relocated to the Cane Garden Police Station and extended their patrols and service to the western end of the island.
Hon Fahie, who was snubbed by Government at the handing over of the police station on September 25, 2015, indicated to this news site on October 29, 2015 that this time around he was properly notified of the reopening but that is nothing compared to the joy he feels for his people knowing that through the lobbying of their representative their concerns with the then state of the facility has been addressed.
“This is a great accomplishment for the people and for the police. The presence of law enforcement agencies of all nature can only serve a feeling of a greater sense of security and safety for both visitors and citizens alike. The Police Officers that work out of the West End Police Station have always had a good relationship with the entire community of the Western section of the island. The re-establishment of their 24hr physical presence in the District will further strengthen the aforementioned,” said Hon Fahie.
The Opposition Member said that although the record will show that over the year’s repairs were done to the building periodically by past Governments, it was still his pleasure to lobby continuously on behalf of the people of the First District to have government finally address the problems that existed with the building at that particular time.
“I will continue to be the voice for my people in making sure that the needed Capital/Development projects for the First District are funded and addressed.”
Hon Fahie added that for now he is glad the mission of having the West End Police Station building refurbished and modernised has been accomplished. “This is the testament of the power of the people once we make our voices heard in a consistent and respectful manner.”
He also alluded to the police presence at the District’s recent Job Fair where almost half of the youth seeking jobs signed up to explore the possibilities of employment in policing. “This shows that the Police is connecting with the community especially our younger citizens. This is remarkable! Despite the end cost is doubled the original stated cost for the project of which I know will be fully explained and justified, thanks to the Ministry of Finance who overlooked the project, the Police now have a more professional and safe environment to work in and for this we all are pleased,” said the First District Representative.
