ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon Sharie B. De Castro (AL) has hit back at Deputy Speaker and Opposition Member Hon Stacy M. Mather (AL) for recently suggesting the Minister has not been willing to take up his offer to lend his expertise in education and youth development.

Hon Mather, while a guest on the Tuesday, April 30, 2024 edition of Cut Deep with host Rosemary L. Rosan aka 'Cindy', said his relationship with Hon de Castro is not such a great one; however, a meeting between the two on areas of education is pending.

“So the minister and I, presently, we're supposed to have a meeting. Have I sat with her and have conversations? No. Am I able to sit with her with ease and have conversations? No. Am I willing to sit and have conversations with her? I started out being willing to do it. Now I'm a bit apprehensive,” he added.

Hon Mather telling lies?

Hon deCastro, during the Question and Answer segment of the Tenth Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands (VI) today, Thursday, May 2, 2024, slammed Hon Mather for misinformation.

“Madam Speaker, despite recent statements suggesting otherwise, I want to clarify that I, along with senior officials in the Ministry, am eager to meet with the Honourable Member to discuss matters pertaining to education and youth development. Contrary to misinformation, I have expressed a willingness to accommodate the Member's schedule and engage in constructive dialogue,” Hon de Castro said as part of the response to a question posed to her.

The Education Minister, now in her second consecutive term as a legislator, said it is important to note that a previously scheduled meeting on February 23, 2024, was cancelled by the Member.

She said despite subsequent attempts by the Ministry to reschedule and accommodate the Member's availability, no response had been received.

“Let me take this opportunity to kindly request that the Member refrains from suggesting inaccuracies and inform the Ministry of his availability to offer his expertise by engaging in productive discussions that will benefit education and youth development in the territory,” Hon de Castro stated.

'The Minister & I will have conversations'- Hon Mather

Hon Mather thanked the Minister for her response to his question and acknowledged “the additional comments that she made that were not part of the question, but I appreciate them.

“And in this Honourable House, I say that the Minister and I will have conversations,” Hon Mather replied.

If you lie down with dogs, it is highly probable that one will be iinicted with fleas. Out media sources must have credibility. Some of us believe that only our opinion, ideas, matters; no other watch can keep time. Further, we are not the straw that is stirring the drink, the string cannot stirred. . We behave that we are the only star in the universe. The Hon Mather, AtL, seems to be a decent and relatively guy knowledgeable but his response to Hon S. de Castro scorching called out was as a limped as a soaked noodle. It was pathetic.

You are not a teacher and don't see the dumps that our education system is in. It's probably one of the worst in the Caribbean. The minister is a great talker. All talk and no work. Schools are staying afloat because of teachers who love their jobs. She needs to talk less and work more. What has she done lately?????????

Look at how many people disliked you comment. She ain't fit for that education. She still breast feeding and you can still smell Similac in her mouth. She got a big surprise coming to her. That mouth of hers needs cleaning. Mr Matther is way better than her and he is very dedicated when it comes to the youth and their education. You go sit down somewhere and don't come for me till I send for you.

Open verbal warfare between two HoA colleagues, Hon Stacy Mather, AtL and S. de Castro, AtL and MEC. You got to love. Who is telling the truth? He saying one and she saying another thing and some where in the middle lies the truth as usual. Will this war end through attrition or tge voters will settle it? Meanwhile, the system is pushing out a bunch of functional illiterate who can barely spell cat or construct a simple grammatically correct sentence much less a compound or complex sentence. We sick and tired of being sick and tired of tge lessness of these politicians. But the problem rest squarely on the shoulders of the electorate who are driven by dependency and political patronage. We reap what we sow. By the way, education is not the only challenge function. Which function is not challenged? None. The BVI is in a state of lessness to its demise, disadvantage, etc.

It’s been a year…if Ms DeCastro was interested in involving Mr Mather she would have done it within 3 months of election. Ms DeCastro is only interested in her own ideas and way forward.

I agree with this post. There is always some truth in what you hear but let's be real, if she wanted to work with him, it would have already happened. Mather, don't bother try. She has her own agenda. Decastro is not ready to have that conversation.

The comment is correct and while she obviously has no interest in his views he is also milking this as the hurt person because she doesn’t want to know his views. He is definitely not that dissimilar as he is also for him and his projects first while saying let’s work together- where he then takes your ideas and uses them to make himself money.
