ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF ) has said it has charged 18-year-old Reaquan Garraway in connection with a shooting at a bar in Long Bush, Tortola on July 30, 2022.

Police in a press release today, August 5, 2022, said officers of the Major Crime Team are also piecing together the circumstances which led to the fatal wounding of a man late last night near to the Greenland Cricket Field.

“Officers of the Armed Response Team and the East End Division arrived at the scene just before 11pm and found Jason Potter Jr, 22, of Greenland on the ground unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead,” the RVIPF stated.

‘The next life could be yours’- CoP Collins

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Mark Collin is asking for the public’s help in identifying those who are in possession of firearms in order to prevent any more deaths.

“We are making headway in charging those who are shooting or in possession of guns but this, unfortunately, is not always in time to prevent injury or the loss of life. We need the public’s assistance in identifying persons who are keeping or carrying these deadly weapons. The next life saved could be yours or a loved one close to you,” he noted.

Witnesses in the last night’s homicide or with information about persons in possession of illegal guns are asked to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

Small island breeding gun culture among the youths. How can I get through to the young men, the war is not on each other!

Why do we forsake our brothers but willing to accept everyone else?

Don’t mind the glitz and lights, it’s all short lived, and empty. Get knowledge and use it well. Violence only deepens our suffering.

        Their parents are overwhelmingly,
Immigrants from neighboring islands with plenty to offer. Why they continue to stay here is only because they prefer to muck up the Vi out of jealousy. Strange minds, these folks.

That don't apply here to that young man, he can get plenty work with his father in the construction trade. And by the looks of it he got plenty money with those Jewelry, he don't need to rob. It's all just pure ignorance and wanna be badboy is what got them so. What they need to do is apply these strict gun laws, 5 years minimum for gun charges. No early release. Will make them think twice before they pick up a gun

These young people watch a lot of violent movies and listen to rap music that is filled with nastiness. The gun culture is idolized. Nobody wants to work a regular 9-5 , they rather the fast money from criminal activities and it seems like the parents can't control them. Elton tried to give the troubled young boy from belle vue a chance to work there, and that boy curse off people nasty and threaten to shoot another worker , and let's not get into the personal hygiene....and what is this young man doing now??? Riding around on a scooter and hanging out on the block while his father busy sending money to Nigeria every other day. There was a wanted FBI poster with the father picture warning people of his involvement with scamming and he was so shame that he started to lie and tell people how he owe a woman money so she put that up really??? That make sense??

and imagine they don't want to promote children if they kind of fail a subject or two but showed tremendous overall improvement. can I called it karma you don't want to help somebody else child who want to go to school and learnt instead of being a drop out and take the streets, but look yours using gun.

Not all young man are lazy. Many locals have applied for various jobs only to be turned down. Next thing you see a down Islander or white person working at the same job. You think it is fair? The only solution is to deport some of them Spanish, Guyanese, Jamaican and especially vincentians.

Considering the mind body and soul destruction of enslaved African blacks ,one would think that they would have an aversion to chains. All too amazing the love and desire for chains and to be chained ...ankle chains, hand chains hand cuffs etc..and the depths
one would go to acquire and be seen chained, with the most expensive even at the risk of death and committing murder. An addictive personality of self enslavement with its accompanying destruction and humiliation. We Black folks need some serious ongoing
    Psychological introspection and is
lowest in the younger generation...self respect and decency gone bye bye most especially the females. Sadly they are the ones raising the future and shaping their morals.
