Really Uptown injured; out of Festival races

Co-Owner of L&B Stables Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online that her champion racehorse is injured.
Hodge explained that the injury received was not a very serious one but, she was taking all necessary precautions at this time to ensure that there is no further damage done and a quick recovery is in store.
Hodge, who did not go into the details of the injury or where and when it might have been received, downplayed concerns expressed that the horse’s injury was life threatening and suggested that there should be no great cause for concern.
According to the horse owner, she expected a quick recovery and was hopeful that the horse would be back on the track again very soon.
Sources close to the L&B Stables, however, informed this news site that the horse suffered an injury earlier in the week during a training session. A veterinarian, according to one of the sources, is expected in the Territory today, July 20, 2013 to assess the extent of the injury.
Efforts to contact President of the VI Horse Owners Association, Karen Smith-Aaron for comment on the matter were unsuccessful up to post time.
However, at the recent demise of another horse, Tiger’s Mischief she noted, “The loss of any horse has implications because it just makes it less horses that we have available and we don’t have enough from the start, so it makes it even worse.”
It was widely hoped that Really Uptown, having captured both the VI Triple Crown and Governor’s Cup earlier this year, would next be in the running for the Premier’s Cup at the upcoming races scheduled for three weeks’ time.
The horse, also known as Jet Blue, is the first horse to win all three legs of the VI Triple Crown Challenge and also won the first ever Governor's Cup for L&B Stables in April, 2013.
