Rea Vanterpool wins Adult Spell Off following tie-breaker

PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- Rea Vanterpool, a resident of Virgin Gorda, has won the Annual Adult Spell Off held at Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) campus in Paraquita Bay on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

The three rounds of the competition challenged the contestants with everyday words, Virgin Islands (VI) dialect and VI nomenclature.

Placing second and five points behind Ms Vanterpool was Mr Raesron Sambury while Ms  Desiraé Pemberton copped third place.

Ms Vanterpool and Mr Sambury were tied at the end of the third round, forcing the competition to a tie-breaker.

Cash & other prizes awarded

The top three finishers won $1000.00, $600.00 and $400.00, along with other gifts, respectively. 

The other four participants were also presented with prizes.

Proceeds collected at the door were presented to private elementary school Kiddies Nook.

    Why they only publicize these events after the fact? They could have made more money had the public been aware of the event prior to being held

    Wow a Pemberton placed in something? They have never been known to be the sharpest tool in the shed. Masa a good example…went balo for a few years for a rusty gun. Hm. Atleast go for a new working burner.

    I thought this was a lovely, light, entertaining and wholesome event for the whole family. There was so much laughter in the place; just what the community needs right now. Thank you to those who organised it. There is an absence of events that are light, entertaining and that caters to the whole family. The large turn out showed our appreciation. We need more laughter!! We need entertainment that take a comedic look at Virgin Islanders, what we do and how we do it and our engagement with others.
