ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Government says it is seeking to create an atmosphere in Road Town that can be pleasant and be enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike and one of the plans in achieving that is to make the town more pedestrian friendly by installing raised crosswalks.

The raised cross walks are seen as a proposed measure that would allow drivers to slow down and give preference to pedestrians once in Road Town. This, according to Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool, is a plan he had since he was first elected to office in 2000.

“When you come in to the town you are expected to slow down, you are expected to drive slowly and not only expected you will have to drive slow. So you will see more of what is described here as raised cross walks. Not speed bumps, we are not going to put those big ugly things that are all over the island.”

According to Hon. Vanterpool, who was speaking to Crafts Alive and Cruise Pier vendors at a meeting at the Moorings Conference Room on April 3, 2012, he expects persons to complain about the plan because “everybody wants to dash through town fast and get where they are going very quickly” but the concept that Government is going to be creating is that the cars must give preference to pedestrians in Road Town.

He also noted that a plan has already been sent to caucus for raised cross walks to be installed on the road from Sea View to the Waterfront. “So traffic will have to slow down.”

Look at the picture which shows an example of a raised cross walk jackass! He would've put speed bumps, there's a big difference. If He had done in four years what Mark has done in 4mths the VIP would be running this country now. He single-handedly lost his party the entire elections from his inaction and brash behaviour! GO SIT DOWN! We don't want to hear nothing more from you.

Yes, not those he has in Sea Cows Bay pulling off the bottom of people car. He drives jeeps so he has no idea what a pain that one by the church is. Even regular high cars touch on that thing called a speed bump.
