Rain delays SCBBC Championship Game

Late afternoon rain showers left Milton McLean of the Sea Cows Bay Baketball Club no choice but to postpone Saturdays Inter District 13-16 Championship Game.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – After two weeks of exhilarating play it all came down to the Championship Game of the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club’s 3rd District Inter District 13-16 League, but shortly before the scheduled start, showers made the court unplayable.

In the build up to the final, both Hannah’s Fresh Dribblers and E and B Parsons had put in some superb performances.

The league had started on Friday February 3 with E&B Defenders routing Pockwood Pond Passers 42 – 28.Deondre Smith top scored with 13 points, adding 4 rebounds and 5 steals.

Akeem Nibbs contributed 9 points, 2 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists and a block, whilst Llewellyn Dasent had 8 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Makeem Hastings recorded 6 points, 15 rebounds, 1 steal, and 3 blocks.

For the Pockwood Passers Nathan Rodney netted 12 points with a massive 26 rebounds, along with 2 assists and 4 blocks. Carl Alexander Jr. had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.

In Game 2, the Defenders outclassed Hannah Fresh Dribblers 42- 28 with Hastings recording a double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. He also got 4 steals and 1 block. Deondre Smith added 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block.

For the Dribblers, Thomas Richardson Jnr. and Dominic Penn both scored 8 points. Richardson Jnr. also finished with 3 rebounds, 7 steals, 7 assists and 3 blocks.

On the following night, the Dribblers snuck past the Passers 39 – 37 with Richardson Jnr. again leading the way. He recorded 16 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals, 6 assists and a block. Luwayne Francis added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

Top scorers for the Passers were Shaquille Baptiste with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 4 assists and Rodney with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists.

In Game 2, the Dribblers proved no match for the on fire Defenders going down to a crushing 56 – 19 defeat. Justin Solomon recorded a double of 22 points and 13 rebounds adding 6 steals, 5 assists and 1 block for good measure. Nibbs hit 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 8 assists, while Smith 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.

Top scorer for the Dribblers was Malaki Smith with 5 points and 1 steal. In the final round of group play, the Defenders booked their place in next Saturday’s final with a 56 – 28 win over Pockwood Pond. Hastings doubled again with 13 points and 20 rebounds, Solomon also doubled with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Nibbs returned 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 5 assists and 1 block. For Pockwood Pond, Milford Todman scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists and Rodney 9 points, 18 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 assists, 8 blocks.

In the second and last game, the Defenders secured a place in the final with a hard fought 33 – 28 win over the Dribblers. Solomon doubled with 16 points and 17 rebounds, adding 4 steals, 1 assist and 4 blocks. Nibbs scored 6 points with 17 steals and 5 assists. Dasent had 6 points, 6 steals, and 1 assist.

For the Dribblers, Malachi L'espirit hit 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Relondo Rogers scored 8 points with 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks and Chadwin George had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal.

The Championship Game starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday February 17, 2012.
