LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI – Quick action by Officers of the Virgin Islands Fire & Rescue Service (VIF&RS) averted a potentially dangerous situation when a fire of unknown origin erupted in the Long Look community today, January 4, 2014.

Eyewitnesses told Virgin Islands News Online that the fire which erupted in the vicinity of the Long Look Community Centre started at approximately 3:30 p.m. and quickly engulfed two vehicles at a mechanical workshop know as Bryan’s yard.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and the full extent and cost of the resulting damages remain unclear at this time. Officers disclosed that several vehicles had been ablaze when they arrived.

Officers from the VIF&RS were called to the scene shortly after the fire erupted and were able to bring the blaze under control shortly after with the skilful assistance of a backhoe operator.

Brief but heavy rain showers also helped to quench the blaze that officers had already managed to get under control.
