ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has announced he will be traveling with Governor John J. Rankin, CMG to the United Kingdom (UK) to convey condolences on behalf of the Virgin Islands (VI).

Elizabeth II, the Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, the longest-living and longest-reigning British monarch, died at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will take place at 11:00BST (4:00pm VI time) on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Westminster Abbey.

‘Honour & privilege’

“I can say to you that certainly it is an honour and a privilege for me to travel with the Governor to the United Kingdom and to convey our collective condolence to the Royal Family, to the people of the United Kingdom, to all the Overseas Territories and to the Commonwealth,” Dr Wheatley stated prior to a 96 Gun Salute done as a sign of respect for The Queen at Queen Elizabeth II Park on September 9, 2022.

The Premier also spoke of the visits made to the Virgin Islands by The Queen in 1966 and 1977.

“And the videos that we see circulating on social media today, of all the people of the Virgin Islands that came out to be able to welcome Her Majesty, and the stories and fond memories that persons have of those times, of the persons who drove her around and the persons who helped her to cut the ribbon for the bridge.

“I reflect even more personally on the fact that my grandfather, then Chief Minister Dr Willard Wheatley, hosted Her Majesty and Prince Phillip right here in the Virgin Islands, and the type of pride my family had with the pictures, portraits that they took together that still in a position of prominence in our familial home.”

VI already has ‘strong relationship’ with King Charles III- Premier

Premier Wheatley concluded that he has every confidence that the Government and people of the Virgin Islands will engender the same type of warm relationship with His Majesty King Charles III.

He said King Charles had travelled to the Virgin Islands following Hurricane Irma and “we have already established a very strong relationship.”

Is Slowande even the legitimate premier? From what I understand he was not appointed in accordance with the Constitution. The Constitution requires that when there is a motion for a vote of no confidence in the government (as occurred with Slowande), that the Premier (as in the substantive office holder and not the "acting premier") be consulted and be given the choice as to whether to dissolve the House of Assembly, resign, or allow the House to vote. Andrew, the then premier was not consulted in accordance with the constitution. To do so would not have been hard as all inmates (as he then was), are allowed visitors and phone calls.

Yes, I expect that the Constitutional Order to be followed. If we as a society, and in particular the powers that be, are free to disregard the constitution because it is inconvenient, then why should ordinary persons pay any mind to any law that causes them difficulty?

Right now it is his job and duty. I am sure all OT's are going to represent their countries. When you take the political oath, certain things are in place that these OT's must follow, whether you like it or not. Give our Premier a break because he must follow protical.

Give the "Premier" a break because he most follow protocol? Was he appointed as Premier in accordance with the Constitutional Order 2007? If he was not properly appointed then he is not the Premier.

You claim he is not the Premier. Even as acting Premier, he would be obligated to make the trip to the UK to represent the BVI.

He would go regardless because he does everything that pleases the Euro agenda, a True disgrace to his people and nation.

@ @arrion. You just don't understand when these politicians take an oath to honor the Queen and her heirs, what that means. If politicians want to be in the game and they swear to uphold the rules of the UK, then they have no choice in the matter, or else they can be removed from office. All over the world, politicians know when they enter an office and take oaths, they must abide by the rules or get ousted. Someone must take the position to represent their country whether they like it or not. So let's not be so hard on our Premier because his replacement will have to do the same thing, whether YOU like it or not.

Mr. Power to the people? He was the one claiming to be the people’s man not so long ago! If he was, he would sacrifice his ambition for his people! Anyway, election is coming!

And do you understand the Governor has reserved powers to make laws for the good ordinance of the country. He used those powers to put Wheatley there. Move on. Next. He was doing Elizabeth's duty accordingly.

She was never our queen, her ancestors were our forefathers oppressors and she was a symbol of this oppression! The white folks can get upset all they want but the truth is the truth! Please do not purport to speak on my behalf. I am really not in the slightest bit interested in the death of the queen, and I have no happy or sad feelings about her death following one of the most privileged and spoilt lives any human could have.

What a joke, there’s an extra £10k minimum of tax payers money down the drain, with zero concern for the environmental impacts of the extra charter flight to Antigua they have undoubtedly booked themselves either. It would be more respectful to decline the trip and focus on the issues at hand in the BVI whilst sending a nice condolence letter and some flowers!

He is by far wiser than man, if not most people that criticising him. They do not, but he does understand the a head to head war against the UK's rules will set us back further politically .
His decision to make the trip to England with Governor John J. Rankin too pay respect to the late or deceased Queen Elizabeth that died a few days past in an act of good respect for her 70 years of unselfish services.

Natalio Sajande Wheatley leadership of the Unity Government is important, and improving. Most of that disrespting him are power hungry. Much of the problems we are now experiencing happened under their watch. Envy, jealously, and lust for power are selfish attitude. We should support the Unity Government that is now in power, not continue undermining and working to bring its downfall.

It wasn't too long ago that the Premier was bashing the Queen and the UK Government making all sorts of silly remarks and supporting Andrew with his rediculous remarks as well. What change now? What he saying about the Queen now, didn't he not know before that his grandfather accommodated her and she visited the BVI twice or he just showing face.
So what was this reparations argument all about and why he supported having radars on a barge instead of a free UK Queen Royal ship, why he supported Andrew in refusing the vitally important low cost interest free loan of 400 million which if we had received it then, all public schools in the bvi would have been rebuilt by now.
This is why one shouldn't trust politicians, they swing in any current going there way which benefits them.

Question Governor and Premier: Are we going to get September 19th off as this is the day the Queen will be buried? It will be a bank holiday in the UK. If we are one of her Territories we should get the day off to mourn and watch the funeral. It is only fair.

What is wrong of the BVI Premier Natalio Sajande Wheatley chose to travel with our Governor John. K. Rankin to England to honour the late deceased Queen Elizabeth for her 70 years of service to the BVI and many other countries? On some people naive mind it is a political cre against us. How more stupid can some of us become?
