PVIM’s Stacey Mather says he thought of how tattoos will impact political career

Mr Mather was at the time speaking on a programme live-streamed on Facebook to launch eight (8) of PVIM's candidates on March 6, 2023.
Speaking on his political plans and platform under the PVIM, and why he decided to run in this year’s elections, Mather was questioned about his tattoos and whether he has thought about how the tattoos may come across as a challenge for some people.
Usual has not worked for VI - Mather
According to Mr Mather, “I have, but at the same time, the usual hasn't worked for us. It just hasn't worked for us. We've elected people who will stick with us, they will talk with us, they will be courting us, and then eventually they abuse us.
“So maybe something unusual is what we need. I don't think there's anything about me that is strange right now... I was good enough to take care of the children of the territory, I’m good enough to take care of the territory,” he added.
Mr Mather, whose platform focuses on youth development, said it is something he has been doing for years and has seen how the VI youths see the territory.
2020 MBE Recipient
Mr Mather is the Director of YEP, a privately funded youth centre in the VI that opened in May 2007 as a safe haven that provides opportunities and activities for over 700 young people in the territory.
In 2020, he received the Member of the Order of the British Empire Honour, the third highest-ranking award, behind Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and the Order of the British Empire.
“And at this point in time, when I go around the territory and I listen to the young people and the families that I've worked with, they're not voting. They have no interest in leadership. They don't believe that we have integrity, [that] we have accountability.”
He added, “If we cannot show and demonstrate the type of leadership that's necessary and possible in our country right now, then in 30 years we will have no leaders because we're turning people away from that.”
VI no longer know known for good governance - Mr Mather
Mather says the VI he knows was a prosperous place filled with integrity, and accountability across the region; however, the VI is no longer known for that.
He also added that what the VI youths need now more than ever is an example so that later all in the VI can have a better life.
“But we do have the hope and the ability and our people to bring that back to our territory and for me, all young people must see that example now so that later when I’m old and I'm sitting down… I know those young people that I work with believe that they can do what's necessary in our territory,” he said.

Ask the youth them. They might wanna vote for him
Having a tattoo does not mean "thug".
Just need to use your brain a little bit more. Politics is the most corrupt occupation in life.
Now repeat that several times and read your message again. Tattoos don’t have sh** to do with the evil that is politics.
Peoples, tatoos are just body art. Who is focusing on tatoos rather than the myriad of distressing issues we are experiencing? Some *&^@$ SIMPLETON. You **s hole get a grip and get serious. We have real problems and tatoos certainly is not one of them.
If you all have something about mr. Mathan's tattoes, understand it is jis perogative, but you are still allowing him to run a program in which you have enrolled your children for years. Look at that , is it hypocritical or the norm?. Just a bit for now., but also remember that Dreadlocks were not accepted in schools or government just the other day.. tlim changes and so do we.
Bless up!
Leviticus 19:28
And women should not talk in church and you should not eat lobster or shrimp and you can sell your daughter as a slave to neighboring tribes, and let your bible teach you how to treat your slaves.
Book written be men used to control men load of nonsense.
What is the wrong message it sends. Ayo to closed minded and judgmental man. Focus on what the man can bring to the table.
With thieves and criminals but because he has body art? Gtfoh- the embarrassment these Batty rangers have done (yeah you know who you are) is far worst than any of his tattoos! Small minds are entertained by small things -
Push on! They can’t hold you down!
Trix is the coolest person working at the college and he have tattoos. All the crooks who messed up the country have not a scratch and a bunch of education.
Yall sound like idiots.
Some of you just got to nitpick on every single thing, you got nothing on the man so you go to his tatts, get over it be more concerned with what he can bring to the table to move the country forward, newsflash, the UK ain't paying the slightest attention to his tattoos. Stop majoring in the minors and get over it, you have options to NOT vote for him.
Why don't the tattoo free models run for election, maybe the critics will have worse to say about you, proceed please.
He is the only one on the blue team getting my vote, the dictator RS, can have several seats from looking like a tourist walking through his own capital. #shameful
Others are more representative of foreign ideas in their suit and bald head attire.
I doubt he would describe himself as nice. Which could be what we need in a politician.
