PVIM’s Stacey Mather says he thought of how tattoos will impact political career

FISH BAY, Tortola, VI –Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) Territorial At Large Candidate in the 2023 Virgin Islands Elections, Mr Stacey Mather MBE says he has thought about how his tattoos would impact his political career as a first-time candidate in the political arena.

Mr Mather was at the time speaking on a programme live-streamed on Facebook to launch eight (8) of PVIM's candidates on March 6, 2023.

Speaking on his political plans and platform under the PVIM, and why he decided to run in this year’s elections, Mather was questioned about his tattoos and whether he has thought about how the tattoos may come across as a challenge for some people.

Usual has not worked for VI - Mather

According to Mr Mather, “I have, but at the same time, the usual hasn't worked for us. It just hasn't worked for us. We've elected people who will stick with us, they will talk with us, they will be courting us, and then eventually they abuse us.

“So maybe something unusual is what we need. I don't think there's anything about me that is strange right now... I was good enough to take care of the children of the territory, I’m good enough to take care of the territory,” he added.

Mr Mather, whose platform focuses on youth development, said it is something he has been doing for years and has seen how the VI youths see the territory.

2020 MBE Recipient

Mr Mather is the Director of YEP, a privately funded youth centre in the VI that opened in May 2007 as a safe haven that provides opportunities and activities for over 700 young people in the territory.

In 2020, he received the Member of the Order of the British Empire Honour, the third highest-ranking award, behind Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and the Order of the British Empire.

“And at this point in time, when I go around the territory and I listen to the young people and the families that I've worked with, they're not voting. They have no interest in leadership. They don't believe that we have integrity, [that] we have accountability.”

He added, “If we cannot show and demonstrate the type of leadership that's necessary and possible in our country right now, then in 30 years we will have no leaders because we're turning people away from that.”

VI no longer know known for good governance - Mr Mather

Mather says the VI he knows was a prosperous place filled with integrity, and accountability across the region; however, the VI is no longer known for that.

He also added that what the VI youths need now more than ever is an example so that later all in the VI can have a better life.

“But we do have the hope and the ability and our people to bring that back to our territory and for me, all young people must see that example now so that later when I’m old and I'm sitting down… I know those young people that I work with believe that they can do what's necessary in our territory,” he said.

He received these awards because UK have him in mind as one of them and someone who can continue their agenda on L…bt. So they branded him Early. Let’s dig deep on this guy , maybe out youths just afraid to talk. I don’t trust a bone in this dude. He looks like a Saint to me , Catholic Priest. Hmmm.
Ask the youth them. They might wanna vote for him

@ Ye. Have you noticed all of the political Devils in prison or removed from their positions do not have tattoos? So how do tattoos make you an evil person? The evil ones are just where they should be, behind bars or fired! Mr. Mather has shown his hard work dealing with our youths when their own parents did not take the time to properly raise them. His program at YEP has saved many hungry and confused children this day to feel better about themselves and feel worthy when no one else has taken the time. I will vote for him because he has shown his good work in the BVI when others running have not and just running their mouths.

Honestly. I don't see nothing wrong with his tattoos being a issue my opinion only . We are in a society where them look bad to some but doesn't represent what he is about when it comes to the country. Look at who he is as a person and what he has done in his life not the colors on his skin. Again my opinion

Kids will automatically feels tattoos are cool . You should have thought about all this before getting tattoos. Then you have soo many!! It send the wrong message. It says I can have tattoos , looking like a thug and still hold a politician job. Next many kids will want tattoos when they are of age.

This is utter nonsense. A person has a right to his choice of living stop looking at the outward appearance of person and look at the person heart and mind what he has done and what he will continue to do for the youths. I never see Mr. Matter looking or dress like a bum regardless of his tattoos. People stop been so small minded.

The way you write and construct your sentences tell me that your kids definitely need an example like Mr. Mather. Stop with the foolish criticisms already.

Never seen anyone in politics with tattoos. It is wrong and it send a dangerous message to the youth. Mark my work. Noting you say can or will justify this. Come on! To the kids .. this is a clear example when you parents tell you think about your future career before getting tattoos all over your body. It is not professional at all.

I still have time to decide and I'll be listening to hear your view on how you plan to help the country out the mess we in.

I set out to stick to the question in the article and not deal with the entire bible. but you are correct, the Bible does say I suffer not a woman to teach and a woman should be silent in the church and should not be preaching. So all these deaconess and prophetess and woman bishops and evangelists etc is against God's word.

I guess one would have to be Head Coach size for voters not to care about weight. Voters should be more concerned with his reason for entering this horse race being for the youth when we all know that ministers go where they are assigned by the premier. Why can’t private organizations work in partnership with each other and the government on projects that benefit the territory without posturing for power, playing the blame game and letting ego and hatefulness make everyone believe they will do a better job when no one really understands how government works?

Some of you just got to nitpick on every single thing, you got nothing on the man so you go to his tatts, get over it be more concerned with what he can bring to the table to move the country forward, newsflash, the UK ain't paying the slightest attention to his tattoos. Stop majoring in the minors and get over it, you have options to NOT vote for him.
