ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Public Consultations on the CoI recommendations and the way forward is set to begin in a matter of days under the Government of National Unity led by Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

The series of public meetings focused on the ‘Framework for Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Report and Other Reforms’ will begin on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Elmore Stoutt High School Tent from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Other scheduled dates include Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at The Watch House from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and then on Wednesday, June 22 at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Information from the government has indicated that other meeting dates will be announced at a future date.

Meetings to enlighten public

Premier Wheatley has faced harsh criticisms for submitting a final proposal on the implementation of the CoI recommendations and other reforms to the UK ahead of public consultations; however, he encouraged members of the public to familiarise themselves with the framework prior to the meetings.

The framework outlines the roles and responsibilities shared between the Governor, Premier, Cabinet, Ministries and House of Assembly in implementing 48 recommendations from the CoI report and says that recommendations overall are aimed at strengthening weak areas of governance highlighted in the [CoI] report.

“The ultimate objectives of the reform process are to deliver justice where wrongdoing is found, engender a new culture in Government in the handling of the public’s business, and ensure the effective functioning of the Government institutions and systems that support good governance,” the document further states.

Let's have more meetings to appease the conscience of the people but their opinions really do not matter one way or the other. Let's meet so the lady from tola radio who knows everything about everything can school those who like to listen to her behave loud and overly aggressive. Once the recommendations are legal. Just carry them out and stop the foolishness.

Surely it’s the HOA that’s supposed to be ENLIGHTENED by the COI recommendations. The Public simply want to know why you negotiated anything without previous consultations with the public and receiving a majority backing by them before agreeing and signing this FAIT ACCOMPLI.

What we need more than consultation is genuine knowledge, an accountability of how or money was spent, and what is being done to retrieve, and get our missing finances back in our treasury, so that most, preferably all of our people can enjoy a better future in the BVI
Price of necessary goods have sky rocketed. We need work to get cash to pay for the high cost of necessary goods, not merely talk, talk, talk, continuously, MONEY, we the people, your employer, finances as soon as possible. Thank means quickly (urgently).

The supposed Unity Government should have had talks with the PEOPLE before bending the knee and kissing the ring of UK-appointed Governor John Rankin, a Jaspert in sheep clothing, holding talks in secret and now want to have a pretend discussion with the PEOPLE. Why? Go long. The governor knew that the power hungry, opportunists, didn’t consult with the PEOPLE but he does give a rat’s @## about the PEOPLE, for he is part and parcel of the colonialism structure. But the Sambos are too blind to see.

When is the government going to process the 3,000 or so longterm immigrant residents who are legally entitled now to be made Belongers? Why is the Immigration Department still declining to provide them with the application forms?
