ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A public protest at the roundabout in Road Town organised by the owner of Tola Radio VI, Floyd P. Burnett aka ‘Heritage’, saw approximately eight persons carrying placards and speaking out against living conditions in the Virgin Islands this morning, June 2, 2025.

Among those joining were Perline R. Scatliffe-Leonard, who unsuccessfully ran against Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) at the April 2023 general elections; Aaron F. Parillon, who was also unsuccessful as a candidate in the last elections but has already declared he will be running in the next elections; Raymond B. Fonseca aka ‘Chi Chi’, who has political ambitions and pageant queen Sylvanna L. Charles.

The protesters said they were fed up with the lack of consumer protection, the poor state of roads, and the lack of potable water, among other things.

Burnett said he was going to give the Premier seven days to respond to the grievances of the protesters or else he would write to the governor and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the suspension of the House of Assembly.

‘Ticking time bomb’

There was one awkward moment when Scatliffe-Leonard said, even in protesting, that there must be no disrespecting of those in authority. “Disrespecting authority is not my thing at all. We have to respect them”

It was then that Heritage interjected, stating that the protesters didn't come to “clown” themselves.

Reminding that he would write the UK to dissolve the House of Assembly (HoA) if Premier Wheatley did not respond to their requests for dialogue, Burnett said: "Asa Banton said F family, F friend, F all of them thing and stand up for country. No longer can they make the people a mockery.”

Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard then continued that she understood why the ‘Greedy Bill’ was made because she remembered what happened to former legislators Rieel George and Terrance B. Lettsome, “with not getting those allowances. They basically dropped to zero”.

Protestor leaves over 'disrespect'

Heritage then cut her off to allege that George, Lettsome and others were rich members of St Ursula’s Lodge.

“Please stop poppy showing black people…TB Lettsome had land all over the country. He family done rich. Rieel George is the same thing. Stop making excuses for thieves…This movement belongs to a set of people and not one person. Somebody else talk please.”

Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard said she was not going to be a part of that, and she departed the already sparse protest group.

The incident left a bad taste in the mouths of those viewing online, and one person pointed out that Burnett’s disrespectful attitude was why his protest would never get strong support.

“They are concerned about the ticking time bomb,” one person stated.

“That is why people don’t respect him. He is out of control,” another person commented on social media.

Others supported Scatliffe-Leonard for choosing to leave.

Some were not happy that traffic at the roundabout was interrupted.

While fewer than a dozen attended the protest in person; however, many chose to view it online at home or in their offices.

That man will be my next district rep come 2027. I am sold on him. He loves his people and does all he can to help without excuses or government funding. Meanwhile I voted for a man that sat in the Opposition for years and complained doing nothing, now deputy premier and still doing nothing.

      Fraser is an ineffective politician.

What makes Fraser hard to beat? Had it been a one on one last election you think we’d be having this discussion?

Fraser has never met an opponent like Parillon and this brother isn’t letting his foot off the gas. I heard him on ZKing the other day and tears filled my eyes hearing a leader we so deserve speak.

I feel those dissing him are the ones trying to protect Fraser and self interest and I am a VIP VOTER.

@ Aaron. Fraser is NOT unbeatable! Y'all complaining about the sad state your neighborhood is in? Who do you think has allowed it to be that way? Give new blood a chance if you want to see a change. Fraser has been there for years, and nothing good has come from him. Stop beating a dead horse!

Can cause major damages. Try tossing a stone into the water and see what I mean. Not much people was people were supporting Norah when it was time to build the Ark. ain’t much people was following Moses etc. Today the country witnessed a handful of people who’s not on the minimum wage level or in need of water. If I was Heritage I’ll focus on my business and let who suffering suffer.

Exactly, let them suffer and look out for yours like everyone else is doing. Seems like the people in Tortola is content with the low Third World standards that they are living in/under. Leave them alone Heritage and focus on your business. You tried, let them be.All people know how to do is talk and complain then when time come to stand up/out you hear the echo of crickets or they retreat and hide peeping from behind drawn window blinds/curtains.

Don’t be fooled we want them out, but we also want money to pay our bills so we had to go to work. Many households are single parent, and the sacrifice is grave. When I need money to make up my rent because I behind Heritage in the streets, you think he will give it to me??? At the end of the day, Heritage is a Penn! That is a big chunk of East End. He wears the locks and his heart in the right place most days, but he does not have the mentality required to lead. We can see that. Quoting bible scriptures and famous sayings on the radio does not make you a leader. He comes off as egotistical, and the thing is I don’t think he means to be. He really needs to clean up his act. Manners maketh man.

It is not a surprise that the protest flopped, flopping for a number of reasons. The VI has a myriad of socioeconomic, political and other challenges, ie, skyrocketing cost of living, the proverbial basket of goods is in the stratosphere; physical infrastructure challenges, viz, water, sewer, drainage, roads, electricity, telecommunications, etc,,health care, education,,public safety ( police, fire, ambulance);,economic diversification, labor and immigration, etc. Further, the electorate want change but don’t want to sacrifice to effect that change. They want others to fight and sacrifice for the change,,especially the elite. Many live in the shadows wanting others to come out and fight..They want the benefits but don’t want sacrifice. The old guard, ie, Theodolph Faulkner, Noel Lloyd, Christopher Fleming, Alred Frett, etc, had fight, willing to sacrifice.

Moreover, the success of any event starts with effective planning, organizing, etc. Was this event effectively planned and organized?

The BVI Government has become A parasite host relationship, the only way to get rid of this government is to get rid of the host.

They are sickening, only giving themselves raises in pay and keeping the expats like modern day slave with and insulting $7.25. Why “W” don’t try living on that $7.25 for 3 months. what a failure!!! That’s what history will remember you as.

Governor I think it time for the UK to take over, we are done and fed up of the same politicians for the past 20 years. They are masters of recycling, jumping from one party to the next, they are all he same, they have NO LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE BVI.

None of them all 13 of them care about no one but themselves, look at the deplorable state of the BVI, this dictatorship government NEEDS TO GO!!

Uk the people of the BVI are begging you please we need better, we want better. CAN YOU SAVE US PLEASE. We will never get better with these politicians they all need to go. UK when you do take over, CUT THAT GREEDY BILL FIRST. Why must we pay them they are doing a piss poor job.

    We didn’t vote for this.

UK will not cut the pension bill which we call the greedy bill, because they get pension too, but they will adjust a few things. People with reason understands the need to pay that pension but some of the things in the bvi bill needs to be changed (pure greed in those things). Why is a former politician who only served one term being paid a salary for 3 years, that is wicked.

The people missed a major opportunity to make a difference! I commend the general for working on a national level to bring awareness to the deprivation facing our communities.

I see simple minded people laughing while their country is sinking. Sad state of affairs. No more self entitlement for our leaders! We need oversight and UK leadership. Implement the order in council, even for the time it takes to restructure the government.

He did not need to make us aware, we live it. Heritage works in communication but he does not understand effective communication. He needs to clean up his act. He likes to say it’s his radio station, but he still needs a listening audience. The rude way he carries on sometimes is not warranted. Cutting guests he is “interviewing” off, blatantly smoking “herbs” so everyone in social media land can see, insulting people, mistalking (using words in the wrong context, or mispronouncing them entirely), these are things that can turn people off from getting information from him. Respectfully, Rasta is a way of life and living. It is not just locks, not eating meat, and smoking “herbs”. There is a certain mannerism that this religion brings to its followers, that I do not see in Heritage. To communicate with people they must trust and respect you otherwise you are working in vain. He was not the messenger to carry the message, but he got it in his head that he was and no one could get him to see otherwise.

This is why things never change. People would rather get on Facebook to bawl and complain as if 'LIKES' and 'REACTIONS' will make a difference. I'm neither here nor there on Heritage, but at least something is being done, rather than virtue signalling on social media, as if that would make a difference.

That's why the leaders are COMFORTABLE where they are because they know their constituents are all talk!

It's a very comedic picture of we BVI people saying we protesting, no fire in the protest and our voice, we sound sleepy and lethargic, no wonder Cyndi chose a different path, and I guess heritage have got to choose that path also, because he has the fight in him, when Cyndi did protest no one stood with her she was heckled and called names like noel Loyd, congrats to heritage for fanning the flames cydi lit.

The small showing should not be taken that the need for the protest was not needed. Sometimes, it takes one standing alone against the rising tide. Theodolph Faulkner started his protest alone. He went out to the Bungalow night after night protesting the deplorable level of services. As now, many wanted change but didn’t want to sacrifice to engineer the change, hiding in the shadows hoping that warriors would drive the change. Fast forwarding, what started as a one man crusade turned into the Great March of November of November 1949. It took one man to stand against a roaring, rising tide. Following in Faulkner’s footsteps, Noel Lloyd took to the street fighting against the Kenneth Bates Hill Wickhams Cat/Anegada fiasco. His efforts were instrumental in putting Wickhams Cay and Anegada back into local hands and control. Moreover., Alred Frett, aka shadow, AC, often stand alone protesting numerous socioeconomic, political, etc, rising tide.

In life, timing is important. Holding a protest on Monday morning was not an effective strategy. If Monday was a key day, perhaps, Monday afternoon would have been better. Not everyone is self~employed; most people are employed by others. As stealth noted, planning, organizing, etc,, are critical factors in executing events. Normally, the attendees at a protest against government is not attended by government supporters. If supporters show up, it is to observe. Yall geh Mount Olympus ting te tark mehson.

The virtue of protests lies in their role as a tool for democratic participation and social change. Protests allow citizens to voice their concerns, challenge injustice, and advocate for policy changes. They can be a powerful way to bring about positive ssocial and political reforms, especially for those who feel disempowered or marginalized.

He is no different that his father. but he thinks we forget where he come from and what all his daddy used to do and how his daddy do no wrong in his eyes. but if we bring that out the first thing he will do is look to sue people. Meanwhile he out here disrespecting people and calling them all kinds of names.

So if TB Lettsome family has land, that mean he himself has land or money? same for Reeal George or any elected official. Good or bad, i honor and resept every single person who has ever sat in LegCo or the HOA. We can agree to not agree with their policies or feel like they could have done a better job but they are all to be commended for being brave enough to agree to stand up and represent us. All this guy has ever done was leech and take from the community. he has no real contribution to society and is a self centered little boy just seeking click bait.

I will be glad when UK ???????? place a representative in each of these government departments because they think that their positions give them authority to do what they want to people in these offices.

UK ???????? come! We need order in this country the British Virgin Islands ????????
