ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the threat of suspension of the 70-year-old Virgin Islands Constitution and the imposition of direct rule by the former colonisers United Kingdom (UK), Virgin Islanders have been expressing their concern about this large possibility.

Some, including Acting Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and religious leaders, have already begun to publicly reject the notion of a UK takeover of the VI.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, persons even plan on taking to the streets to publicly express their rejection of direct rule by the UK.

Many have said they had welcomed the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) as a tool to identify the problems in governance and for the UK to work with the VI to correct the identified shortcomings, but not for the VI to become a colony like in the days of old and undo all the progress made since the reinstatement of the Constitution in 1950 following the Great March against UK neglect.

Public Meeting @ Althea Scatliffe Primary School

To further inform the people about what direct rule could mean for the territory, a public meeting has been planned for 5:00pm at Althea Scatliffe Primary School in Road Town.

It is unclear who is behind the organising of the meeting; however, a flier sent to our newsroom stated ‘UK rule means our freedom will be taken away. UK rule means our advancement will be delayed.’

According to the CoI Report, serious dishonesty may have taken place in Government and by Members of the House of Assembly (HoA) over recent years and recommended a temporary partial suspension of the constitution. This means that there would be neither ministers of government nor elected representatives and the VI would be run by the Governor.

When the people of The BVI will actually wake the heck up. Let the Constitution be suspended until we have cleaned house. This is the best way forward for all of the regular peoples lives. Those in power and those who feel "connected and privileged too bad for you. We the hard working honest people of the BVI welcome the Governor to take over the running of our beloved country until the corrupt are locked up and the future of the BVI success is set on a firm footing. Thank you Jesus for the COI and for taking down Andrew Alturo (huge embarrassment to his dad) Fahie exactly how you did Lord Jesus. Your Word tells us you raise up and take down leaders. Please people of the BVI, see and understand the Handwriting on the WALL.

I wonder why they didn't hold a public meeting when the government was running our country to the ground, suspend the constitution and clean up house.

@wondering: That is the most idiot suggestion I've heard to date. Why do we need a constitutional suspension to clean house; that is the job of elections, use them wisely. 86 likes: we're in trouble.

This buss was a smokescreen to tie the BVI back to the UK. We're going to be on the G7 list so get ready. They used the buss to bring in the UK remember it have a video on social media with a pastor warning Andrew fahie about this. He didn't use wisdom. The UK has always been in control and it's the Elites bloodline calls all the shots. How did they get connected to the law enforcement officers? People just don't call people and deals happens some where do the line it has an insider working for the Elites. Andrew should know that dealing with outside people is wrong

US District Attorney tells DEA investigators their case against Andrew Fahie may not survive what the MI6 briefed the Operative on what they wanted to concocked in bringing down the Premier in relation to Hezbollah making them not consider false charges of Engaging in offering Terrorism Financing against the Premier, it was all fabricated and the DA said they were taking it too far. A set a dutty crooks the UK is.

The case in which they have recordings and videos won't survive? MI6? Come on, if you're going to come up with rumors at least be a bit more grounded.

Sowande is not a nice person. Fahie was a much nicer person he was a good leader..Carvin is a nice person he is a better leader than Sowande...So they are marching to make another big mistake again with Sowande as leader.. What really hurts me is how quick they gave up on Fahie,, no fight no loyalty knowing he is innocent until proven guilty...These are not good people..

We need change and we need it now. Let the UK come and let’s get better . Minimum wage is 6$ . The COI expose so much corruption. The Government is Corrupt and we need change . I stand with the people who wants UK to come and take over . we need change . The government doesn’t care about us . Premier Fahie sold us out for $13.50. That’s all we were worth to him . We deserve better . Nobody is perfect but we need a change .

This is hypocrisy coming from we BVI Islanders. We have been the most racist against all our black ex-pat brothers and sisters. How many of you know what we all were doing to the ex-pat was wrong. You all now see it essential to have them currently support us in marching. Who will correct the wrong that the politicians were doing to us all and the ex-pat? Let the UK come and put the country straight for the next two years. You all go sit down.

You guys need to shut the hell up. You think it will get better if the Uk takeover?
You might be taking the next plane home. They don’t care about how you are being treated because their focus will be a bigger agenda.
      Stop whining and stand!!

I am in favor of the UK taking the helm for at least two years. This thing about the UK coming to take over is so far from the truth. We sat back comfy and complacent we played ourselves, we are responsible for what we are in today.Whe have no one to blame but ourselves, we allowed this to happen to us. Right now, everyone living in Tortola, man and woman, rich or poor is affected and will be affected by this. No one is better than no one.We are all riding the same train.

Reading is Fundamental. The Governor took over a week to read and interpret the report. The report has been available to us in less than three days and we start running our mouth. It clearly shows that we did not read the report in its entirety. We need to stop embarrassing ourselves. The Governor is probably laughing at us. Reading is Fundamental.

The UK will take over. If it doesn't it will appear weak. We will march and keep noise for a day or two and continue to call for decolonization and self-determination on every radio talk show and continue to blame the UK for whatever for generations but that would not prove anything. We have been proven to be corrupt due to greed and selfishness and God help us what else will be revealed in the coming weeks.
