- Members to share & reflect on 75 years of restored legislature

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The House of Assembly (HoA) is opening its doors to members of the public for a special event this morning, November 4, 2025.

A Special Sitting of the Eleventh Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth House of Assembly is being hosted to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the restoration of the Virgin Islands’ (VI) legislature from 10:00 AM.  

The event will take place in the House of Assembly Chambers in Road Town and “promises to be an insightful and memorable event”, the HoA said in an announcement. 

The VI’s milestone in its democratic journey will be highlighted as members share and reflect on the significance of this diamond jubilee. 

Sitting can also be viewed online 

Persons who are unable to attend the special sitting in person are encouraged to tune in to the proceedings online via the House of Assembly’s official YouTube Channel @houseofassemblyvi2922.

“The public is encouraged to tune in and participate in commemorating this important chapter in the Virgin Islands’ history,” the announcement added.

Celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the restoration of the Territory’s legislature officially began on Sunday, October 2, 2025, with a unifying church service at St George's Episcopal-Anglican Church. 

The monthlong celebrations culminate on November 23, 2025.

Activities are being held under the theme ‘Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future: The Virgin Islands 75 Year Journey Towards Self-Determination!’

    Thank to Mr. Theodolphus Faulkner and Mr. Glanville Fonseca and Mr Carlton deCastro from the Legislative Council Chambers. Do not forget the road that they paved to get the territory of The British Virgin Islands to where it is today. Do not forget all the leaders of the British Virgin Islands that fought hard and work hard to create the British Virgin Islands into what it is today. Do not trample on their contributions that they have made for everyone to benefit in The British Virgin Islands as it is today. Learn to appreciate everything that they have done.
