Public asked to remain cautious as Erin moves away from VI

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands (VI) saw 9 inches of rain as a result of Hurricane Erin in 18 hours.

According to information from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), the Territory also saw wind gusts of 60 mph. 

The DDM is still advising the public to remain cautious: stay indoors if possible, drive with caution, and avoid unnecessary travel. Mariners are also asked to stay in port. 

The Virgin Gorda office of the Public Works Department is asking residents and motorists to remain off the roads until the all clear is given, as there are many areas with mud and stones. 

Weather forecast for today

Outer rain bands associated with Hurricane Erin will lead to periods of showers and thunderstorm activity over and around the islands during the next 24 hours. 

Possible rainfall accumulations could range between 50 to 75 mm or 2 to 3 inches during the forecast period.

Weather today: Cloudy to overcast skies with periods of showers and thunderstorms.

Weather tonight: Cloudy to overcast skies with periods of showers and 40 per cent or moderate chance of thunderstorms.

Ports of exit and entry

All Ferry Ports will remain closed. All seaports, offices and warehouses remain closed today and will resume operations tomorrow, Monday, August 18, 2025. 

The Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport will resume operations at noon today.

The travelling public is still advised to check directly with their airline carrier for the latest updates before travelling.
