Prominent local educator Kirlin T. Lettsome passes
Mrs Lettsome is survived by her husband, a local educator, author, and historian Dr Quincy F. Lettsome, and three children- 2 girls, Tracy and Stacy and 1 son, Sym Lettsome, along with three grandchildren. The deceased Lettsome was born on March 22, 1943, and was 79 years of age at the time of her death.
She had a long career in education and rose from a pupil teacher to become the principal of the biggest primary school in the Virgin Islands located in Road Town, Althea Scatliffe Primary School aka ‘Mighty Scatliffe’, a name it earned under her tenure.
Mrs Lettsome served the school as principal from 1987 to 2000 and, after retirement, she was the head of the Teacher Education Unit at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and also lectured in educational subjects.

Mrs Lettsome is also responsible for the Social Studies textbook now used in public primary schools in the territory.
The late Virgin Islander sat on boards such as that of the Teaching Service Commission and Immigration Department.
The late Mrs Lettsome featured prominently in Virgin Islands culture, which she helped to promote and, along with Teacher Cicely Malone, taught many adults how to plait the pole for the annual Emancipation festivities.
Originally from Road Town, the capital city, the late Kirlin held Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Teacher Education. She was very kind, loved young people, and mentored thousands of students and teachers over the many years of her career.
No funeral announcement has been made as of publication time.

You mean phenomenal?
She was just a wonderful person always encouraging and supporting ever since I knew her from young. I feel like I have lost a member of my immediate family. Rest on teacher. You left your mark. You did very well in this life. My sincere condolences to Dr. Lettsome and surviving family members.
