Progress being made on new block plant in VG
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Ninth District Representative Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley visited the site where the new block plant will soon be operational. He acknowledged that while there are still challenges to overcome, he remarked, “Working together, we can overcome them all.”
'New plant will reduce reliance on Imports'
In an interview with Virgin Islands News Online, Honourable Wheatley expressed his support for the project, saying, “I think it’s a great idea. We used to make blocks on Virgin Gorda a long time ago. Not only will this reduce our reliance on imports and promote greater local circulation of money, but it will also create jobs.”
Our News Centre also attempted to reach out to Mr Lennard for comments; however, he respectfully declined, stating that he does not wish to participate in interviews or news articles.
Project supported by Unite BVI Foundation
Block Works VI is a pioneering and sustainable manufacturing plant in Virgin Gorda that produces eco-friendly concrete blocks using recycled glass sand.
The plant is expected to revive the local manufacturing of concrete blocks in the Virgin Islands, a process that has heavily relied on imports for over 20 years. The blocks are made using crushed waste glass, helping to eliminate glass pollution from the territory's roadsides and beaches. The facility received substantial backing after winning the 2025 VI Purpose Fund Impact Challenge, supporting its mission for a circular economy.
