ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Several persons yesterday, January 6, 2021, were left frowning at the behaviour of an officer of Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) who had allegedly refused to wear a mask to enter a business establishment and then reportedly assaulted a security officer.

Reports are that shortly after 8:30am, a uniformed prison officer was asked by a security guard stationed at Republic Bank BVI to put on a mask upon entering the establishment.

The officer; however, said he had difficulty breathing when wearing the mask.

The man was then advised by the security guard to remain outside but this did not go down well with the prison officer as he allegedly blurted out a flurry of expletives at the security guard.

A bank staff reportedly intervened; however, when the prison officer was being escorted out of the establishment he allegedly violently pushed the security guard.

Our newsroom was told that a police officer, who was at the bank at the time, was forced to caution the prison officer.

As part of COVID-19 control measures, all business establishments are required by law to enforce mask wearing, sanitising of hands and social distancing protocols or face fines and even closure.

Might be true but you locals aren’t joining to be guards and the prisoners can’t guard themselves so what’s the solution??

If there's an outbreak at HMP we'll understand why.

The disrespect is to tell persons with pre-existing breathing conditions that you don't give a @#$% about their health and they should put on a mask which can kill them, to prevent a virus that has a 99% recovery rate.

If he truly has a breathing problem, he would have purchased a face shield.

Wearing a face shield is like poking a hole in the condom tip before putting it on. The face shield is a farce and only protects you from a mosquito flying in your eyes or mouth, nothing else. That people can be so stupid thinking that a shield with openings all around it can protect from a virus in the same way as a mask properly covering nose and mouth is disheartening. The whole covid thing is just nonsense and needs to stop.

Your comments are nonsensical and contribute to the bad behavior of some feeling justified to not follow the protocols/guidelines. Don’t be a part of the problem, it could be one of your loved ones who contracts the virus and doesn’t recover. God forbid.

I would assume the bank security would press charges. The imbecile disrespected the uniform that he was wearing. I recommend termination. So that means he is not wearing a mask period and is PUTTING HIS CO WORKERS AND INMATES AT RISK. Grown A** man talking about when he wear a mask he have trouble breathing. IF THE ELDERLY AND LITTLE KIDS WEARING MASK, THIS BIG HARD BACK MAN CAN DO THE SAME.

Nonsense!! There a right way and a wrong way to wear a mask, putting it below your nose serves no purpose and it wouldn't even make sense to even put it on. Also, hear what! The minute the security don't do anything, you guys will have another problem so please stop.

Wearing a mask under your nose is not the proper
Way to wear a mask. And to those of you who claim you can’t breath with the mask, learn how to deal with it because It is all in your mind or wear a face shield. Lots of you all is suffering from the placebo effect.

Is it a placebo affect if you have breathing issues prior to covid ? Smart pants

Well, if the mask was under his nose, he was still breaking the rules of the bank. The mask should have been covering his nose and mouth. Keep saying, you can wear your mask or chose not to wear a mask when you are on the street but when you are in a place of business your nose and mouth should be covered. If I was sitting next to him waiting to be seen I would have called him out for wearing the mask below his nose.

So the message is: you can push someone without lawful consequences. What if the security guard had retaliated and inflicted grevious bodily harm on the prison officer?

Let's see if the commissioner of police will action this, or ignore it.

That's conduct unbecoming of an officer, especially citing the times we are living in. There is no excuse for being irresponsible.

Truth be told is that if the secret service and the wealthy people would stop spraying there biochemical agent to create this pandemic , we would not have to be wearing any dam mask. But they have invested millions of dollars in these trials to depopulate and create the world that they want .Main agender is to create the problem and have the masses beg for a solution which they have as the vaccine (foul Trap). Then they have you where they want to achieve the one world order government. (Chip)

Those Security at Republic Bank are doing an excellent job!! People just need to follow rules. Even if he pulled the mask down for the camera put it back on. It is to protect others especially older people who do not have a strong immunity as younger persons. Simple common courtesy and common sense. Continue to do your good work all security officers. We are NOT the U.S. We were raised to respect authority!!

He must follow the law and rules like everyone else. Plus is unacceptable to verbally abuse and push the guard for doing his job, that's just lawless and foolish. Having said that perhaps essential businesses should have an alternate protocol for persons who cant wait long like the elderly or infirm, or for persons who have health concerns which prohibit long wearing of masks. Something to consider ..
