SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development Hon Lorna G. Smith OBE (AL) has said the Virgin Islands has to seek different ways to navigate the challenges it is facing due to the policies of US president Donald J. Trump.

“President Trump has made life more challenging for all of us here in the BVI, in fact, in the world. We have to find new supply chains, we have to find new markets, we have to find new shipping lanes, we have to find new everything,” Hon Smith stated while addressing the Third District Job fair at Therapy Works in Hannah Bay on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

‘Learn as much as you can’

Hon Smith told the prospective employees that there are challenges ahead, including for the government, and urged them “to learn as much as you can”.

Economic experts have said immigration and trade policy shifts in the US are likely to drive higher inflationary pressures domestically and globally, while increased tariffs could disrupt global trade and accelerate efforts by companies to de-risk supply chains.

Meanwhile, the At Large Representative also singled out Nanny Cay for special recognition and praise for continuing to create jobs in the territory and for supporting the job fair.
