Premier writes VI church leaders for special 7-day national prayers
In his plea, the Premier said Since the commencement of this year, the Territory has been facing various challenges.
“The year started out with a fire that claimed the life of one of our golden citizens. Since then, I am sure that you are aware that the Governor in his Fifth Quarterly Review on the Implementation of the Commission of Inquiry Recommendations has indicated his intention to seek additional powers on governance reform to empower him to directly act in areas of governance devolved to the elected arm of government.”
He said there have also been some premature deaths, including a former member of the House of Assembly, Carvin Malone and more strange incidents and accidents.
“We are also facing negative publicity as a result of the upcoming trial of the former Premier, Mr. Andrew Fahie,” Dr the Hon Wheatley added.
Need for prayers in VI
He said as such, many persons have been citing the need for prayer for the Territory, “I too believe in the power of prayer, so I am calling on the churches to lead this charge.
The Premier said as told in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
The premier said he is requesting the local churches offer up special prayers for the territory during the seven-day period which will culminate in a special prayer service on Thursday, 25th January 2024.
As part of the process, the Premier invited church leaders to a special Zoom Meeting yesterday, Friday, 19th January, where details were shared on the format for prayers during the period.
