ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – It remains unclear if a promised investigation into the production and subsequent leaking of the now controversial ‘Police in Paradise’ recruitment video was ever carried out in the Virgin Islands (VI), some three months after the video caused widespread controversy in the territory.

In late June 2022, the 5-minute video clip created by UK media company ITV surfaced online and drew widespread criticisms from the VI public for portraying the territory as a destination plagued by crime, drugs and violence, despite the VI being one of the safest places in the world.

Graphic portrayal of VI

The graphic video included interviews with several police officers, including Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool, who said ‘Nature’s Little Secrets’ does have issues of crime such as drugs and theft.

UK national and Commissioner of Police (CoP) Mark Collins, also commented that the VI can move from a paradise to one with of ‘muck and bullets.’

The commissioner followed the leaking of the video and statements with an apology and an explanation that the clip was produced originally for use as a recruitment video for officers from the Caribbean and the UK.

Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley in a July 21, 2022, sitting of the House revealed that Cabinet requested an investigation into the video, and he personally followed up the request to the Governor for an investigation ahead of the matter being discussed at the National Security Council.

No word 3-months later

However, some three months later and when contacted about the status of the investigation on September 21, 2022, no response was revealed from the Premier up to publication time.

While the Top Cop had indicated that permission was sought in advance from the relevant authorities, including the BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITB) specifically for the intended purpose, the BVITB stated it never gave any permission for such a video to be made in the territory.

Collins had also argued that the video was never intended for public consumption.

While offering an apology on behalf of himself and the force, Cop Collins added, “I am even more disheartened that the people of this Territory have to endure additional distress and trauma in this already very difficult time.”

The commissioner continued that he was “saddened by the actions taken to bring me and the Force into disgrace,” as he apparently tried to shift the blame on the leaker of the video.

The point is that we need to become a part of the USVI. This UK relationship doesn't work. The current situation with our local leaders is untenable. Independence is a NO! Let's try being a part of the USVI.

Part of USVI? Are they independent? I thought USVI was US.

I AGREE. Becoming a part of the USVI is the best alternative to what we have now. The UK-BVI relationship is not working out. Independence, is something that we are not ready for, and the way these politicians behaving, it seem like we will never be ready. So, let us become a part of the USVI, because it cannot be as bad as the current situation.

Financial services industry would be dead in a heartbeat if BVI joined USVI. The majority of civil servants would be made redundant. Road Town would be the second or third city. These islands would be flooded by rich Americans who would buy up all the property, and also by a bunch of junkie losers looking to get high in the sunshine. The illicit drug trade would be severely impacted as the US law enforcement closed down the smuggling. Gun crime would however rise as more people would legally have the right to carry weapons. Your idea is very stupid.

People wake up. The elites and all their puppets have you all as racist which is the destruction of man. We as the people make the different races by having sex with each other black,White, Chinese etc. You all get racism with the tv programming.I am lost with how gullible the masses are. Wake up everything is all planned even with Andrew its the perfect time to get rid of the cash. Cashless society is coming so who cares about the money. The government gives you the drugs they are the ones with the resources and then they show you how to make it so they can lock you up and make even more money off you.they don't use money it all in your head. All government workers just sign receipt because the elites and Rothschild family doesn't use cash that's for us so they can keep us in bondage. You need to stop killing your immune system

Why we still on this video, the video just stating the facts hence all the busts that's been happening since said video. Why we like to live in denial in the BVI? We don't like to take the bad with the truth.

telling it to those hypocrites won't make any difference in their minds , they are more angry that it was seen , and in their minds it never happened , and if we don't get the right people to run the country and get rid of ( the guns / the drugs and corruption ) no one will be safe in nature's beautiful secrets / it will be ( our own deadly secrets ) hopefully not

We don't make drugs or guns in the BVI. Why those who bringing them in and selling them getting away with it. That is fishy. You all blaming the head coach for everything. My question is: How all these guns getting in the BVI? There is a loop.hole somewhere.

You all really trying hard to get rid of top cop, do you all really think a local can and will do a better job? every time someone try to curb the crime rate on these islands you all try your best to get rid of them. i am not saying they do not have faults but we all are humans that will make mistakes. Alfred was here doing a great job you get rid of him, Alvin knight was doing the same great job you frustrated him he had to leave. now Collins doing it you all want him gone. Why? to put one of your own so when your children and relatives commit crime it will be swept under the carpet. Tell your operative in the police force that keep leaking information to make Collins look bad they have lots more to see. unless these islands gets independence you will not have a local top cop these islands are too corrupt.
