ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Calling it more than just a celebration, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has extended well wishes to Dominica and St Lucia on the occasion of Jounen Kwéyòl, which is French creole for Creole Day.

“Jounen Kwéyòl, Bonjou pou moun Sent Lisi Ek Dominik,” wrote on Facebook today, October 27, 2024.

He added: “On this special occasion of Jounen Kwéyòl, with Dominica having celebrated last Friday and Saint Lucia joining in the festivities today, I extend warm wishes to the people of both nations."

Jounen Kwéyòl, according to Premier Wheatley, is more than just a celebration; “it is an opportunity to honour your Creole language, customs and rich heritage. May this Jounen Kwéyòl inspire pride and appreciation as you celebrate your shared culture!” Premier Wheatley stated.

Jounen Kwéyòl is celebrated in the Caribbean islands of Dominica and Saint Lucia, on the last Friday of October and the last Sunday of October respectively and has been held annually since 1984.

Throughout the preceding week, the various towns on both islands host cultural events and festivals which showcase different elements of their heritage and culture.
