Premier Wheatley: 'Our collective goal for 2023 must be to rise to fullest potential'

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Noting that the Virgin Islands (VI) has been on a journey of nation-building for more than 200 years, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said the VI's progress has been due to the strengths and abilities that are within every Virgin Islander, "which sometimes we forget that we have."

"In 2023 we continue this mission; and it requires that we rediscover, reconnect with and reawaken our dormant talent, and recommit to the sacred aspirations that Virgin Islanders have carried from generation to generation," Premier Wheatley said in his New Year's Message today, January 1, 2023.

Dr Wheatley recalled that the last few years have been filled with challenges, and 2022 has been no exception. He said these difficulties have included the loss of loved ones.

The Premier said it is the faith in God and strength as a people that have enabled the people to weather the storms, "and I am confident that whatever the future brings, our indomitable Virgin Islands spirit will continue to see us through. Our resilience comes from the perseverance of our fore parents. This is why our people have been able to achieve so much development over the years."

The mission

In 2023, according to Premier Wheatley, the collective goal must be to ensure that the Virgin Islands people rise to their fullest potential, inspired by the great works of those who have served before and motivated by responsibilities to the next generation of Virgin Islanders.

"Together, with keen focus on our mission, with hard work, and faith in our God, we will make 2023 our best year ever. The future will be what we make it, so let us press forward with confidence in ourselves.

"On behalf of the Government of the Virgin Islands, and on behalf of my family and myself, I wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2023."

This man wants to bring down God’s wrath on the BVI. I guess the hurricane was not enough.

@Seriously, I think your comment is a bit insensitive. I think a lot of you is not fully seeing and understanding what the Premier is doing on the behalf of the Territory. Premier, continue to do what you have to do. They are going to drag you through mud, toss you out the bus window, push you under the moving bus wheels ETC. I’m team Wheatley and will always be team Wheatley through the good times and the bad.

We have not felt God’s wrath on the territory as yet. The hurricanes were the tip of the iceberg.
