ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), accompanied by the Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), is on a short visit to the United Kingdom (UK) to "engage in preliminary discussions on tourism opportunities and partnerships".

The Government Information Service (GIS) informed in a press release on Saturday, September 27, 2025, that they will both be absent from the Territory from Saturday, September 27, to Monday, September 29, 2025.

It is unclear who else is part of the VI delegation.

The duty travel to the UK comes on the heels of the announcement that the draft Order in Council to suspend the Virgin Islands Constitution will be lifted and the brief visit of anti-corruption champion Baroness Margaret Hodge.

Deputy Premier and Minister responsible for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3), has been appointed to carry out the duties of Premier, Minister of Finance, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development, and Minister for Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation, during the period September 27 to 29, 2025.

Honourable Fraser's acting appointment is in accordance with Section 55(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, which states: "If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorise the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier; and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier."

    These politicians every bring anything meaningful from all these trips?

    Are anything brought back implement and used to progress the bvi?

    Are there any news articles or statistics that shows positive things from them going to all these meetings and conferences?

    If it’s a tourism conference, why is the minister for communication and works there? My suggestion would be for him to attend conferences that would help him to figure out how to fix our dilapidated infrastructure. That might give us more value for the thousands spent on the trip.
