Premier Wheatley attends 2026 BVI Full Moon Party in PR
Organised by the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC) on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the event marked the official start of the VI’s tourism season in the Puerto Rican market.
Showing support for the event was Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) under whose leadership the Ministry of Tourism and Culture falls.
Calling it an honour and a privilege to attend this year’s event, Premier Wheatley said, “In the BVI, we love Puerto Rico, and we know Puerto Rico loves us right back.”
He thanked all the attendees for coming out to the full moon party to celebrate the relationship between the VI and Puerto Rico.
Destination VI on display
The annual BVI Full Moon Party is inspired by the iconic full moon parties held in Trellis Bay and Jost van Dyke.
The event showcased hospitality, music, culture, and pride in the Virgin Islands. It delivered a compelling invitation for the people of Puerto Rico to visit and experience all the maritime and land attractions the VI has to offer.
The event is also a precursor to Christmas in July, where Puerto Ricans flood Virgin Gorda for a party weekend.
“Every year, Christmas in July has been growing bigger and bigger and bigger,” Premier Wheatley said.
The 2025 edition of Christmas in July saw thousands of people at the beach for the big party, which Hon Wheatley described as “fantastic”.

Nonetheless, the perception of many in the community is that the Premier is the “ Party Premier”, for it seems he is more focus on “partying” than on more substantive issues:projects . This is a losing focus. Many are wondering if he is not listening to his taxpayer paid advisors? Or he is just doing things his way?
Further, effective representing is a vital, critical responsibility in leading and managing. Changing political perceptions can be challenging, for it takes time to move electorate on an issue, imagine or real, but once un-moored it is difficult to get them moored again.
The Premier needs to get unmoored from the party image. He needs to listen to the electorate, the people, the movers, the king and queen makers and the people with the true power at the ballot box. Many political careers have been short-circuited, gone sideways, shortened, for erroneously believing they were the straw that stirred the drink. The BVI is at a crossroad,a fork in the road, a turning point, an inflection point, needing strong effective leadership to set it on, guide, and sustain it on the right course.
The situation is ripe for someone to step forward and grab the leadership mantle. The BVI has a thirst, hunger for strong, effective leadership, etc.
