CAROLINA, San Juan, Puerto Rico- The Virgin Islands’ (VI) Puerto Rico outreach began with the BVI Full Moon Party at VIVO Beach Club in Carolina, Puerto Rico.

Organised by the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC) on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the event marked the official start of the VI’s tourism season in the Puerto Rican market.

Showing support for the event was Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) under whose leadership the Ministry of Tourism and Culture falls.

Calling it an honour and a privilege to attend this year’s event, Premier Wheatley said, “In the BVI, we love Puerto Rico, and we know Puerto Rico loves us right back.”

He thanked all the attendees for coming out to the full moon party to celebrate the relationship between the VI and Puerto Rico.

Destination VI on display

The annual BVI Full Moon Party is inspired by the iconic full moon parties held in Trellis Bay and Jost van Dyke.

The event showcased hospitality, music, culture, and pride in the Virgin Islands. It delivered a compelling invitation for the people of Puerto Rico to visit and experience all the maritime and land attractions the VI has to offer.

The event is also a precursor to Christmas in July, where Puerto Ricans flood Virgin Gorda for a party weekend.

“Every year, Christmas in July has been growing bigger and bigger and bigger,” Premier Wheatley said.

The 2025 edition of Christmas in July saw thousands of people at the beach for the big party, which Hon Wheatley described as “fantastic”.

The B.V.I is probably the least law abiding politically govern place the world. Lest tan five minutes ago I saw a woman and two infants one motorcycles in motion. The woman sat in the middle. The youngest infants in front, and the other one sat at back. This comon behaviors has been regularly happening in the B.V.I for the past two decades or longer none curbed. But in spite of all this and others unlawful behaviors, our Premier chose to and did attended a Full Moon party in Puerto Rico. Can you see as clear as I do our lack of political representation? The want another four years term in power.

The BVI deserves better than a Premier who clearly thinks that amoong the most important things to do is to party on behalf of the people, while the people suffer. No effort towards addressing our social issues, just partying. The Esteemed one is here trying his best for the people of SCB and as a candidate of the 3rd only to have to work with this medicority.

@LMAO, take note that Guyana got an oil windfall. On paper, it’s wealthy. However, it does own or operate an oil refinery. It gives licenses to MNCs to drill and refine oil. It gets a pittance for these leases. They don’t have any oil to give us even at discount..How many Guyanese racing to go back home? The BVI rush to sign trade agreement with Guyana. But what does the BVI export? That rush to send delegation to Guyana, waive visa requirement,,etc, was just performative.

Dr. Hon Premier Natalio Wheatley is a bright fellow;and his intellectual might is unmatched. However, his political intelligence though is wanting. His retail politics skills too is also wanting. Perception is reality; subjective perception can result in the people believing that the subjective perception can become the objective reality. The BVI has a myriad of needs, ie, physical infrastructure improvements, institutions building, arresting the skyrocketing into the stratosphere cost of living, diversifying the economy, improving access, availability, quality, etc., of healthcare, fixing the broken immigration and labor system, enhancing education, improving food insecurity, enhancing public safety, charting the course for next steps for self-determination, etc.

Nonetheless, the perception of many in the community is that the Premier is the “ Party Premier”, for it seems he is more focus on “partying” than on more substantive issues:projects . This is a losing focus. Many are wondering if he is not listening to his taxpayer paid advisors? Or he is just doing things his way?

Further, effective representing is a vital, critical responsibility in leading and managing. Changing political perceptions can be challenging, for it takes time to move electorate on an issue, imagine or real, but once un-moored it is difficult to get them moored again.

The Premier needs to get unmoored from the party image. He needs to listen to the electorate, the people, the movers, the king and queen makers and the people with the true power at the ballot box. Many political careers have been short-circuited, gone sideways, shortened, for erroneously believing they were the straw that stirred the drink. The BVI is at a crossroad,a fork in the road, a turning point, an inflection point, needing strong effective leadership to set it on, guide, and sustain it on the right course.

The situation is ripe for someone to step forward and grab the leadership mantle. The BVI has a thirst, hunger for strong, effective leadership, etc.

@RU, good read and advise. Hon Premier, you are paying six figures for personal consultants/advisors. RU is give you some worthwhile l, game changing free advice. Take it. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Here is a news flash, the majority of people want you focus on more substantive. If you are not sure what they want, take a peek at RU’s list above. The Frig…….out and back in mi hole.

@ Raw and Unfiltered, “……… his intellectual might is unmatched.” That’s inflated,,hyped, over the top. He is bright, but political sense…. the jury is still out.
