DUFF'S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islands (VI) Premier Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has welcomed new Governor John .J. Rankin, CMG, with open arms to the Virgin Islands, calling the new era one of exciting collaborations between the two.

“This is a beautiful time that you have come to the Virgin Islands unlike what some may say. It is a time that's biblical and positive,” Primer Fahie said in a speech during the Friday, November 29, 2020, Governor’s swearing in ceremony at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola.

'John & Andrew" marks the start of exciting times - Premier

The biblical significance, he said, is reflected in the names of the VI’s Governor and Premier, “And really and truly Governor John, as I look at it you would agree that it's biblical, because after all your name is John and my name is Andrew.”

According to Hon Fahie, on research both names he found that the name John is a Hebrew name meaning Yahweh (God) has been good, meanwhile, the Andrew means manly and conscious, brave, strong, courageous and warrior, “but in a good way,” the Premier remarked.

“I'm a firm believer that names mean something, and in an era when things will seem like a storm… it's good to know that there will be a John and an Andrew on board,” Hon Fahie underscored.

Continuation of Journey left by H.E. JAspert

“A John and Andrew, I do not call it a reset, I call it that we continue our journey when the time in life has placed John an Andrew in a time for a time such as now, to ensure that we move our country to the next level of the BVI in a partnership built on mutual respect and a partnership built on trust.”

The Premier said that given the history of John and Andrew in the Bible, he is confident that it will happen again for the Virgin Islands.

“I know that it is going to happen because that is what John and Andrew did in the Bible and what was, is and what is, was and what was, will be again.”

Premier Fahie reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the Commission of Inquiry announced by controversial ex-governor Augustus J.U. Jaspert

CoI Welcomed by Gov't

Premier Fahie, who has questioned the way the CoI was announced by Mr Jaspert, again stated that his government welcomes the CoI.

“So you will have the utmost support from my government even with the Commission of inquiry. We welcome a transparent Commission of inquiry because we are 100% certain that when it is completed... that the British Virgin Islands will able to move from its teenager years, into his adulthood.”

Further, the Premier said the new Governor Rankin also come at a time when the territory will be embarking on its constitutional review, green energy push and aggressive legislative agenda in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hon Fahie continued, “We are confident that you have come in a time when this will propel us into a new paradigm and a positive one I might add,” he said.

Building good relationship is paramount and necessary for leaders of both braches to practice and hold on to,,They will be disagreement because they have their own brain and their own heart,,,, so, their sought process and ways maybe different but respect, compromise and understanding must be the foundation of this relationship,,, Avoid anger and harsh words,,, agree to disagree, shake hands and make appointment to meet again,,,,We need unity amongst these two branches for us to progress an Island,,

Andrew is a great speaker. Great leader for our times. If you leave it up to some, beVI will be under colonial depression for another decade.

Sometimes it's best to keep our 1 mouth shut and our 2 eyes and 2 ears - 4 instruments in total - open. That is 4 open and 1 shut - a good combination.

No one is a fool these 'brighten' days and that includes John.

I love our Premiier he speaks his mind with no malicious intent. He is working in the best interest of the country. Many persons are upset because he did not share up all the money and give every body a lump sum. The man have a country to run. I am very pleased with the teport on how the money was spent. I did not apply for any because I felt I was able to get by without it, even though I had to cut back on a lot of things . There are still hurricane and flood repairs to be done and along withthe pandemic. The former Govenor said we must use our own money and then when we do that it becomes a problem. This Goverment care about peopĺe and is doing a good job. There will always be opposition in life, everyone is not going to agree. In reference to the pandemic, there are those who said our Government do not know how to run a country because of the protocols which are in place but look at bigger countries like UK and the US, they are now doing what we have been doing. We need to appreciate what we have. We were at our lowest after Irma andMaria and we only started to get any significant relief after this Government ctook office and nòw some want to remove them. All we were hearing after the hurricanes was that we must help ourselves which we were doing but needed a little assistance and was getting none. We human beings, our memories are too shot for our own good.

The apostle Andrew in the bible was the brother of Simon Peter and the SON of John...
    Honora patrem tuum.
The going is good now as it is early days yet... let's hope that the same respectful and honouring tone persists when friction sets in.
