Godly counsel needed- Premier Smith
Premier Smith, in his remarks, stated that two days after Hurricane Irma devastated the Territory he convened a meeting with pastors and other members of the clergy who could have been contacted at the time.
“I called on them for their prayers and healing for the people of this Territory following such a devastating experience. More importantly I called on our spiritual leaders to organise a Territory wide service to bring the people together to securing the fathers strength and to praise him for sparing our lives. Coming out of that request the Territory commemorated the one month-anniversary of the passage of Hurricane Irma with a service at the Queen Elizabeth II Park on November 6, 2017.”
Premier Smith added that while he is grateful for the role the churches have played and are playing he is appealing for all of the churches to be active and vocal during the recovery phase.
“The Government cannot do it alone and so we depend on God’s divine intervention into our affairs and the powerful prayers of our churches and our people would help to provide that Godly counsel that we need.”
Let his will be done
Dr Smith, who has been struggling to maintain unity in his National Democratic Party (NDP) Government, also asked for prayers for his Government and civil servants before offering up a prayer of his own.
He prayed that God will continue to bless the people of the Virgin Islands with health and prosperity.
“I pray that God will also continue to grant us wisdom to lead in accordance with his will. I pray that the people of the Territory will continue to live in unity...”
Various prayers were made by members of different denominations, including Pastor Stanley Bernard of Gospel of Jesus Evangelistic Pentecostal Church; Dr C. Lucia Woods of Agape Total Life Center, who did a Prayer of Repentance; Reverend Franklin Manners of the Methodist Chuch, BVI Circuit, who offered a Prayer of Thanksgiving; and Bishop Ishmael Charles of the New Testament Chuch of God International Worship Center, who did a prayer for the return of godliness across the land.
The Third Annual Territorial Interdenominational Service of Thanksgiving and Intercession was held under the theme: Rebuilding Stronger Together with Christ.
