ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - On their monthly talk show, NDP Radio last evening, August 20, 2012, in response to an issue a caller mentioned on air, Premier Honourable Dr. D. Orlando Smith stated that his government is currently planning ways to revamp the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town.

The male caller informed the Premier that the park is in need of new benches and needs to be taken care of on a whole, he brought to the Premier’s attention that almost all the benches in the park are destroyed and “soon you’ll have nowhere to sit in the park.”

In response, Premier Smith announced that under his guidance and supervision, the government is currently looking at revitalizing the park so that it may continue to be attractive to locals and visitors alike.

“We have some great ideas for entertainment there and other areas,” said the Premier of the Virgin Islands, Hon. Dr. Smith.

Archibald Christian, host of the show in place of Ms. Eileen Parsons, commented that it is a good idea for the government to revamp the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.

Hon. Christian said “people won’t appreciate that there is a certain amount of wear and tear that is associated with a place that is publicly used every day, so from time to time, we’ll have to replace the benches,… sometime we even have to close it for a week or two [for maintenance].

Premier Smith added that along with the beautification of Noel Lloyd Park, The Queen Elizabeth Park is also under question to be revamped and maintained.

“That is another attraction that is necessary, and we need to get it done.”

It would also be lovely if persons using the park would remember to dispose of their garbage properly. The chicken bones and cigarette butts belong in the trash and not on the grass! This will keep the pesky chickens away and allow children to play on the grass without fear of picking up something nasty.

And to imagine the VIP was in there for four years, placed restrooms in the middle of the park and never saw the need to improve it's aesthetics. Sometimes, one can conclude that one's sorroundings are indicative of one's appearance. VIP anyone?

neither VIP or NDP, but if surroundings are indicative of one's "appearance" if not mentality then why are we trying to compete with every place with a tall building and a ferris wheel? that does not make BVI unique. It was stupid to put a restroom in the park for sure. But a road has been put through the small area and now they are planning for "entertainment". Sometimes a park is for sitting and being quiet.

PLEASE MAKE It the official HEROES Park of the B.V.I. I am tired of statues all over the place -strewed across the B.V.I. from Anegada to God knows where. Please put them in one place so visitors and locals can see and enjoy and CELEBRATE THEM. MOVE those statues from by the court/legislature office and have one central location.

How about statues in Q Elizabeth park? it is bigger. No one is served by too many statues. brass plaques are just as good in discussing historical moments and heros. Everyone and his brother are going to put up statues for every little thing and everyone gets diminished.
